People in the Bible kneeled to pray as a sign of respect or fear. They believed they were in the presence of GOD, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Kneeling shows reverence and honour, it also shows submission. This is important, because God needs to be treated in this respect. He IS GOD and deserves all reverence, honour, glory and submission.

You do not have to kneel to pray. The only thing in the bible that is even remotely similar is when Jesus tells us to pray in private. He is basically saying, don't pray having the motive to appear as a good person by having others see you as you pray. You can pray anytime, anywhere and anyhow. Remember what James says, you must believe that you will receive what you pray for.

If you can't kneel, sit or stand because you are disabled, then lay down. But if you can put your knees down, that show s you are healthy and you should thank God for that. Preferably in private so that you will be only with your God. Give honor to whom honor is due
