I think you are a lucky fellow most kids don't like their step parents i personally hate my step father and mother. And you have someone begging you to adopt her i think you should go for it.Real fathers are normally friends to their kids so don't worry about mixing the 2 roles cos it works together just fine.congratulations in advance

Get to know your step-daughter first start out as friends accepting one another and then after some time warm up to each other and see where it goes then if you want to be her dad adopt her give her your name or just be good to her and be her friend.

What does your wife think? If she agrees, it can do no harm and should not ruin your friendship. Apparently the way you have treated her until now is very good. Just continue as before, only she will be your step-daughter.

She really really just wants to belong somewhere. Be proud that she loves you that much to want to be a part of your family. My mother re-married when i was 2 and my step-dad never adopted me. The whole family had the last name Smith my mom my step brother my step dad even the damn dod was named ozzie Smith. I wasn't a Smith and I felt left out. Especially at functions where people just assumed my last name was Smith and when they painted "The Smiths" on our mailbox. It hurt. I didn't want his name, I hated him. He was abusive to me, beat the sh*t out of me on a regular basis. But I really just wanted to belong to someone.

You should be excited most step children don't want their step parent to adopt them. I think it might bring you closer together and all she wants is to know that you are her daddy and that she is your little girl.

Sounds like she wants a dad not a friend...isn't that what adults do when they marry someone who have other children?

To adopt her, you will need the written consent of the natural father, and this will relinquish all of his paternal rights, and obligations to her, financially and otherwise.
Good Luck !

Tell her you won't adopt her(she is almost an adult...15...not 5) and tell her you will always be her friend and you will always help each-other.That will help her a lot.
