I am not a Christian though I have conversations about Christianity regularly with "believers" of all types. When ever there arises an occasion when I get onto these Christians for not giving me a reasonable answer to a question they say things like, "You are blind," "If only you had the eyes to see," or "I am going to pray to ask god to open your eyes to the truth." This use to bother me until I was reading John and found out what Jesus said about those who are blind:

Jhn 9:41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

What do you guys, Christian and non-Christian, think of this verse?

Note: The reason that I feel better after finding this verse is not because I cared what Jesus or the God of Israel might think of my “blind spirit”, but instead, it was because now I have a way to retort the Christian’s rhetorical statements about the “eyes of the spirit”. Perhaps it is not the strongest argument against this assumption of theirs, but it is at least enough to make them think for a moment.

Barrie: Those that are without sin cast the first stone.

>>If someone is doing a wrong and no one else is moving to correct this person’s wrong doing then I will step forward and try to correct the person doing wrong. If this counts as casting the first stone then so be it.

>>Yes, the Bible does teach this, but there is an obvious mistake in this. Jesus was part man. Sure he was part god too, but he still had human characteristics, meaning at anytime he could have sinned if he chose to. For instance, when Satan took him into the desert for 40 days and tempted him, Jesus had the chance to sin, but he resisted it. Being a man with strong spirit he was able to overcome sin. Later in his ministry Jesus encourages his followers to be as him and to set an example to the rest of the world. This means that Jesus asked them to be sinless as an example to others. Sure that doesn’t mean much at first, but remember, the God of Israel says that he will never give you more than you can handle, meaning if he tells Jesus to tell people to be sinless then he knows that they can handle the task. (Whether they succeed or not is up to him.) So, the point is that though Paul teaches that every man has fallen short, Jesus says that you can be sinless if you chose.

The last comment was in response to Pro_steering_wheel_holder's comment: "I always though no man is without sin.... but I'm just a SS Teacher... WTF do I know."

Technically this really isn't an answer to your questions. I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart.(No, seriously) I love it when I can add another weapon to my arsenal in my guerrilla atheism. Excellent!

Yet you are more christian than they are.

Christian is not a label you wear. It is not a particular church that make you a christian. You will find God in the process. God only allows certain things to come to pass because something much greater has a potential to occur. The choice is left to the person.

Whatever your motivation is to seek the truth, you will get there.
Remember that Jesus said, "I am the truth." You will find it.

Going back to your question, just to throw you back on your chair: are you ready?
Here it goes: Yes Jesus said that. But that is Jesus saying it. He knows who is physically blind and who is spiritually blind. The people who told you that are not Jesus's. They may understand the mind but they don't comprehend the heart. They take your comments personal and as attacks instead of encouraging them to seek the truth as well. They are already biased toward you when Jesus would simply love all of you. I will stop here. You can think of the next.........adios

Great verse to ask about. The religious leader had seen the miracles that Jesus had done and as the religious leaders they should have been aware of the prophetic sings of the Messiah. They were fully ready to except the miracles but if Jesus was the coming King they were looking for they would have to lose the positions that they had gained in the time that the Romans were ruling. Jesus is saying "you say you see yet you pick not what you are supposed to be looking for but what the world is offering therefore I cannot forgive you"

The problem is that you do see.

That is, in John 9:41, Jesus is talking to the Pharisees, who did not believe him to be the Son of God. But since they heard him speak and knew who he was, and they ignored what he said, they were no longer blind. And so, having known Jesus and disbelieved in him, they were now guilty of sin.

You have heard of Jesus, just like the Pharisees. You are not blind. Therefore, you are not sinless.

If you are looking for a clever sort of aha-gotcha comeback, you are going to have to try again.

I am a sinner, I am a Christian, by Grace I do have my Salvation, I do believe that Jesus died on the Cross, and from the moment I had asked for forgiveness, and He into my heart, I know that my Sin was forgiven, but I will still be judged by my Father for what I have done, and not done

This verse deals with blind meaning that you could not tell sin from truth, When Jesus came to earth he gave his life for anyone who would believe in him and follow his ways. This in effect makes him the light, the truth and no one will go to heaven except through him. His light removes our blindness. We are to confess our sins to him and he forgives and forgets. If we do not then the sin remains with you.

If your were blind to the Truth, you would have no knowledge of sin, as God defines sin.

However, if you have read the Bible & have had these conversations, you are no longer blind to the Truth of Jesus Christ, & therefore have no excuse.

This is the concept behind, "Don't expect non-believers to act like Christians."

to answer your first question, what does Jesus say about me, I am saved therefore, I am His child and my sins are remebered no more now, it doesn't mean I don't sin because we all fall short of the Glory of God but, when I repent for my sins they are remebered no more and we shouldn't feel guilty anymore if we asked for forgivness.
and to answer your second part of the question, what do I think of the verse it means that being blind you couldn't see such things as lust or temptation but if you can see of course you can see lust and temptations of all kinds thats what that verse is talking about. Hope that helps.

john u have to remember was a disciple of jesus...so in this text here he is referring to and stating that a lot of people r not open to and recieving the truth (the word of god)for what it is....in other words u have to be willing to open ur eyes to the truth..and that means taking a real look at urself and a lot of people can look at everyons else but themselves....so dont be so quick to look at everyone else take an inner look dont be blinded by a lie.....

Jesus is speaking of spiritual blindness and he was also talking to the Pharisees who spoke as if the were without sin but in reality were pretty wicked. They claimed to have spiritual sight but there actions proved there blindness.
