Soy sauce can be, and is, used for a whole variety of cooking.
It does colour foods, but its main use is in providing saltiness.
It flavours savoury food with a salty flavour but is (slightly) healthier for you than salt - and has a taste which is more refined than just salty.

Soya Sauce is used in cooking for it's flavour,and colour.
lt has it's own original salty taste. Soya can be used in many
many dishes rice dishes, cheese, stews, with meats etc.
As far as Soya being nutritional it's 47% sodium, with 1gram
of carbohydrate and 1 gram of protein, there is also 5 calories

if you buy a high quality soy sauce from the health food store then it will have some nutritional value.We use it for stir frying and in soups for flavor.Get the best quality soy sauce that you can afford.Kikoman brand is crap.If you're coming down with a cold or the flu you can also make a traditional Japanese healing drink.Start with a cup of boiling hot water added to a coffee mug.Add sliced fresh grated ginger or pickled ginger( in a pinch) with a TBS of soy sauce.Drink it down and be well. Great stuff.

Soy sauce is an ingredient and a seasoningand it is not only used in Chinese food but also Japanese food. There are many types of soy sauce-they are all not dark color!

Here is a recipe from that website which was good!
Sesame-Ginger Noodles
Yield: 6 servings
1 pound uncooked fresh Chinese-style thin egg noodles, spaghetti, vermicelli or linguine
1/4 cup Kikkoman Soy Sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
1 teaspoon cornstarch
2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger root
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3/4 cup sliced green onions and tops
1 tablespoon sesame seed, toasted
3/4 teaspoon Oriental sesame oil
Cook noodles according to package directions, omitting salt; drain, rinse under cold water and drain thoroughly.
Meanwhile, combine soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, cornstarch, ginger and 1/2 cup water.
Heat oil in hot wok or large skillet over high heat. Add green onions and stir-fry 10 seconds. Add soy sauce mixture; cook, stirring, until sauce comes to boil.
Add noodles; cook, stirring, 1 minute or until sauce returns to boil and noodles are evenly coated with sauce.
Remove from heat. Add sesame seed and oil; toss well to combine.

For both flavor and taste. Dark soy sauce tend to add a darker color to your dishes while light soy sauce just adds flavor. You could use light soy sauce when frying veggies. I like to add darking soy sauce when frying eggs.

for color, flavor and taste, in fact authentic dark soy adds a better saltiness than normal salt. as for nutritional value, I can't be sure though it is made from a highly nutritional product like soy.

soy is full of sodium -- it was probably used early on as a preservative like many things in cooking -- vinegar, salt, wine, etc. for a dish full of soy sauce try filipino adobo. its yummy! i even found a video cooking lesson on youtube for you

soy sauce is used in many soups and entrees..it is used a lot in the orient..and i use it to enhance the flavor as does salt...and it give some color...soy products are high in protien....hope this helps....cheers
