The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints takes care of members in need including widows. Family should help first, but the church provides food and and financial assistance. They have farms, canneries and storehouses for this purpose. One Sunday a month members fast and contribute the cost of 2 meals specifically for welfare needs. We do not have a paid clergy, so tithing doesn't go for a salary.

Hum . . . it depends if that nations has the welfare system to support. In Many European nations, they do have the system. So perhaps the church are not doing it.
In Asia, it is common to see that Church is involved in social work.
In my home church, besides sending out medical teams to crisis struck area, and also involved in rebuilding projects, we also have a system to work in our neighbourhood.
We allows people to walk in and received help, not too big an amount, but we do give, and have a system to check if they are real, and also see if there are other areas that need help.
We have free tutions for less privilaged kids, and children fun program, no presurising them to come to church.
We have womens, single parent group for the neighbourhood, counselling and help. No pressurising them to come to church too.
Iin the nut shell, yes. . . there is.
But allow me to remind you, when the Lord asked us to look after the poor and widow, it is us the Believer, not the Church.
Some church is not able to, as they are financially weak. But if they do, good.
Personally, I feel that our church should also push the members out to take over the job volunteerly. And not to burden the church workers. That is my view.

There are many such Churches. Here we should understand as per the culture prevailing those days(Job sysstem) only males used to work mostly farming. Widows and orphans are Jobless, so they need help. But these days widows are also earning. What I mean is whether widow or anybody whoever is unable to earn and need help should be helped

Churchs take up tithes to build bigger, prettier churches.
If Christians followed Jesus example, there would be lines and lines of ministers at hospitals and prisons. Have you ever seen that? There would be no hungry, barely clothed persons in their congregations. The people in the neighborhoods would not have there electricity turned off due to inability to pay it.
Oh, that's right, they don't allow "those types" in their congregations!
It is all hypocrisy to "keep up with the Jones's".

Mine does. We're Southern Baptists, though, so we're often behind in the times. We also give to orphanages.
Are we not supposed to follow this directive anymore?
