Regarding the commandment not to murder, Jesus is saying that a hateful heart is as damaging as murder. Before going to God to worship, resolve your anger so that you may approach God with a reconciled heart.

Regarding adultery, Jesus is saying that being lustful is as damaging as committing adultery.

Matthew is my favourite book.

In my opinion Jesus was clarifying that....judgement of another is inappropriate.
A person may not commit murder, but anger towards another is not acceptable either.
The physical act of adultery is wrong, but lust is not acceptable either.
Jesus is pointing out the difference between the outward acts and the inward thoughts....both of these things need to be over-come. There is hypocrisy in the person who points out the actions of another, when his/her own inside thoughts are not perfect.

Well I glad you used murder because kill is and incorrect translation . The purpose of the expansion is to let you know that your inward thoughts can condemn you and well as your public practice. Jesus is saying if your heart is not changed don't bother bringing God gifts. This is why at a church service the congregation will pass the peace by shaking hands or kissing. This is done to show that you have no hidden (in you heart) anger in your heart .

well I understand it as any wrong doing or sins start from unrighteous thoughts we have in our minds and hearts. So He teaches us to garnish our thoughts with virtue and truth and fill our hearts with love. Murder and adultery both deal with life. One is taking away life and the other is degrading life giving forces and also bringing the children of God outside a lawful marriage or do anything like unto it. However these two start from a tiny seed of thought. Therefore He warns to be slow to anger and control our thoughts and fleshly desires lest we transgress His commanments and fall.

He equates murder to calling someone a fool and he equates adultery to looking at a woman with lust. Do you really want to know or are you wondering if we know?

Jesus is saying that you can commit adultery and murder in your mind, with your thoughts, and adultery and murder are not just physical events, but emotional and spiritual ones.

If you are sitting around ruminating about wanting to kill someone, or thinking that you hate them enough to kill them, then in God's eyes, you are just as guilty as someone who physically murdered another human being.

If you are sitting around ruminating about having adultery with someone, thinking of stealing them away from their spouse, or leaving your spouse for them, then in God's eyes, you are just as guilty as someone who physically commits adultery.

The point Jesus is trying to make is...it's not just what you do, but what you think and that your thoughts are....

,,,,not hidden from him.

Pretty well....

But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whoever shall say to his brother,' Raca!' shall be in danger of the council; and whoever shall say,'You fool!' shall be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.

but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Just in case anybody didn't understand it the first time...

This World's Law says, "If you commit a sin and if there is no witness, Accuser is freed". But in the sight of God though you didn't commit a sin, even if you have the mind of committing it, It is considered as Sin committed.
