My first daughter never had to be tested for TB but I took my second daughter to her ten month check up and they told me TB testing is standardize testing for children this age. Is it really necessary? Did your children get tested? And what is TB, anyone know?

oh god.. I'm not going to explain that... i don't have the time... look it up on WEBMD or something....

my kids just got the shots for it.... but it's not a bad idea to test them... especially since the immigrants are bringing in the disease.. mostly asian not mexican.. (for once)

they don't do health screenings on immigrants anymore like they used to so that's why TB is on the rise... you have cases of mumps and polio and all kinds of stuff lately...

Tuberculosis is a serious illness that can be picked up from being close to people who sneeze or cough and are infected (or from being otherwise exposed).

The test is a skin test. They do a tiny little scraping of the skin as part of the test (they aren't just scraping, they're putting stuff on the skin). It doesn't hurt. You have to wait a couple of days to see if the skin reacts by turning red and/or having any swelling around the scratched area. Children usually have negative tests - no reaction in the skin near the area. Adults over 40 can have a mild reaction because many people have been exposed to tuberculosis over their lifetimes but haven't become ill.

When TB is found in someone everybody they've been near gets tested. TB can be treated with medication, but its a serious and contagious illness; and getting tested for it isn't a bad idea.

I'm fairly certain my kids had the test when they were little. Its a really common thing for people to be asked/required to get a TB test.

My son is now three and he did not have to get a TB test, but my now one year old neice did get the test at 10 months as well.

While you feel it is not necessary for your daughter to be tested, Children, the elderly, and people with unhealthy immune systems are more succeptible to diseases. It is better for you to know she is healthy and not risk denying her a test that can be life saving.

I have listed a link to the CDC with information about TB.

Dont do it. TB is a lung airborne diease. You do not have to get that test done. The state does not require that test until pre-k. You would be suprised at how many shots these doctors are giving out now that is not mandatory. Ask next time is it required, not a half-to and you will be amazed at the result.

No my kid's did not have it TB stands for Tuberculous as far as I know and no I do not think it is standard for them to do that not unless there is a reason for them to think the child has been exposed to the disease other than that It is just another useless thing that are medical professionals do.

tuberculosis is a horrible and very easily caught lung disease that takes two years or so to recover from , at one time it was so common there were huge isolation hospitals for tb patients, and since the advent of more street people and drug users the disease has returned in hard to cure forms.
