well most people are tackful enough to know the proper time and place to ask that. and to whoom they should ask.... so I take you are a virgion and someone asked you and you are offended. I guess the only reason I could see a person being offended is because they are ashamed of the truth..no matter what the truth is.

Yes, it's extremely impolite.
Asking about sexual matters of any sort is impolite and not appropriate casual or workplace chit chat. If someone volunteers something, in a private conversation, that is their privilege, but it's always impolite to ask someone for those kinds of details.
I have found that if there is something that people want you to know, they will simply tell you. For instance, if you meet someone at a party, and they feel it is necessary to share some detail of their sexual life with you, such as their preferences, or whether or not they are a virgin, they will find a way to share it with you. I think that is acceptable, and the receiver of the information should simply keep it in confidence as a matter of courtesy. But asking? Awfully rude, in my opinion.

I think it's rude. It's just not the question ... I think it's offensive when people put you on the spot like that. You shouldn't have to tell people to mind their own business when it comes to personal stuff like that, they should know better. And if it's a coworker in the breakroom, they're treading on dangerous ground. They keep asking questions like that they're not going to be working there much longer.

Well, that depends on the subject matter. If out of the blue someone asks "Hey are you a virgin" then yes, very rude.
But if you happen to come into that sort of convo, and that question pops up, then its not being rude, just curious.

I think the main point is whether or not you feel that it's impolite. If you're not comfortable talking about it, then tell the truth and let the other person know that the question makes you feel uncomfortable.

I would think it impolite of anyone to ask me such a personal question in a casual conversation. (I would not discuss sex with co-workers). If I however involved in a general discussion on sex, then I would suppose that a question like that would be acceptable.

Of course it is. But your responsibility at this point is to think of a response that is so clever, but not offensive, that this person will never ask it again. Something like " Oh my God. I guess we do recognize each other." But that is assuming that this is considered an insult. It would be a lot smarter to treat it as a matter of pride. "Well, of course. I've never gotten THAT drunk."

I personally think it it a private matter. If you want it known, you can tell whoever you want, but having someone just come out and ask is both rude and imolite.
