Tuberculous meningitis or BRAIN Tuberculosis (TB), is an infection of the meninges (membranes covering the brain and spinal cord) caused by the bacteria that causes tuberculosis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis .

It's a very rare disorder.

It is contagious inasmuch as it is a type of tuberculosis.

It comes from a droplet infection (airborne), leading to several neurologic changes, to several complications.

Symptoms:

* Seizures
* Fever
* Listlessness
* Loss of appetite
* Severe headache
* Nausea and vomiting
* Stiff neck
* Sensitivity to light ( photophobia )
* Loss of consciousness

MAnagement or treatment:
* early diagnosis and treatment vital
* initial therapy: rifampicin, isoniazid and pyrazinamide plus one of
o streptomycin
o ethambutol
o prothionamide
* steroids
o patients with disease of intermediate severity
o comatose patients and patients with mild disease derive only minimal benefit

tb meningitis - viral infection of brain / spinal cord.
NOT contageous - treated with intravenous antibiotics in hospital.
Plus - strict regimen of oral medication for six months

Tuberculous meningitis is inflammation of brain and spinal cord coverings. It is serious,not contageous and totally curable.

its treated the same as the lungs although sometimes they put a shunt in the head to drain fluid from the brain to keep down the pressure on the brain, its treated with antibiotics for up to 2 years. I would suppose it can be contagious.

it is definitely treatable and not contagious. but due to the length of diagnosing, it can go deeper than the meningus. im a survivor of tb meningitis but im now blind.
