If you do it right, it can take a while. A good friend of mine, who was already well-read on most things Jewish (he was raised under the impression that he was Jewish, but after becoming Torah observant, realized that this wasn't technically the case, and therefore took the appropriate steps to make it official), took a couple of years. Of course, he was in Arizona, and the Beis Din (Rabbinical Court - you need one of these to oversee the conversion process) was in LA, so making appointments and getting out there was a schlep and a half.
In any event, you ought to be absolutely sure beforehand that this is what you want. And understand that there's nothing in Torah that condemns someone to Hell, or anything like that, simply for not being Jewish. In fact, there is a growing religious movement of Torah-observant gentiles. They don't convert to Judaism, but rather keep the commandments of the Torah that are applicable to all human beings, namely the seven Noachide mitzvot. They call themselves Noachides or B'nei Noach ("Children of Noah" - Noah being the archetypal example of the righteous, G-d-fearing non-Jew). Anyway, I think it's pretty cool. If the terminology of "Noachide" didn't exist, I'd think an appropriate term would be "Judaist," to signify that the person isn't Jewish, but they follow the Jewish faith. Doesn't that just blow your mind? They're not Jews, but the follow the same religion as Jews.
Of course, if you're absolutely determined to convert, more power to you. Jews-by-choice are deserving of the utmost respect (sadly, some Jews-by-birth don't always act in accord with this idea, which has its basis in Jewish teachings).
It could take anywhere from say, six months, to several years. One to two years is probably average. Assuming you're asking this on your own behalf, good luck to you in whatever you decide.

to convert orthodox, which is the only biblical way to do it and the only way you will really become a jew, it will take no less than a year, and perhaps longer until the rabbi and the beit din (jewish court) decides you are ready. expect a lot of hard work. it's not an easy process to convert to judaism, and the rabbi will do his best to try to dissuade you.
EDIT
uh, mythkiller, the bible IS the religion of judaism. it CREATED judaism and dictated exactly how judaism should be practiced - the laws, the holidays, everything. are you actually saying jews are a myth, btw? and yes, yehudi and jewish are the samething. yehuda means judah, and therefore you get... judah-ism.

An Orthodox conversion takes approximately 2 years, provide or take. i be attentive to that some rabbis attempt to dissuade you from changing, yet not all. Your sincerity and understanding are examined good earlier you formally grow to be a Jew with the help of decision, in the process the beit din, that's a Jewish courtroom. The rabbis will ask you the way you sense approximately changing, according to probability some particular questions approximately Judaism, etc. that's friendly, it extremely is unlike taking a attempt in college. what's in contact interior the approach is a great number of reading, a great number of getting to understand. be at liberty to digital mail me in case you have greater questions.

thats so awesome!! im so happy to hear that you are converting...i have severeal friends who converted to judaism and they are very happy :) if you convert reform, it will be short and easy. conservative will take longer. and if you convert orthodox, it will take at least a yr, the rabbi will try to persuade you (3 times i believe) to not do it, but if you still want to, you can....in the bible it says that you are supposed to say no three times...but anyhow, i think its awesome! and if you convert orthodox, there will be no question anywhere that you are jewish. every synagogue will accept you as jewish. if you convert reform, then the orthodox for example will say it wasnt done the right way. israel accepts only orthodox conversion, i believe.....many celebs have converted, check out wikipedia
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You must be referring to Reformed Judaism that accept converts who are not even circumcised because under the Hebrew Laws the uncircumcised are without soul and down to animal level.
But Judaism is not mentioned in any form of Scripture as a religion, not even in the corruption of Scripture called Bible.
Jews are a trick of the Bible that comes along with the Trick of the Crucifixion of Christ and the Trick of Christianity and the Trick of Jesus.
There was one tribe of Juda among twelve tribes and all twelve tribes became one people under Musa and were known as Yahuudi and are still known as Yahuudi and that does not translate or mean Jews.
You have been sucked into 2000 years of Christian religious fraud and need a shrink to get you out of your hallucination.
AMEN!

For any conversion, it is more internal than external. If your heart is converted, its over. So it takes hardly seconds..
