Doctor says I should remove the packing but it is very painful. Should I pull it out slow or fast or let my boyfriend do it. I just want to get it over with and I am so nervous.

hi,

I had a cyst that we had to re-pack every morning, however mine was painless. I would suggest taking it out of the cavity slow just in case the packing has stuck onto the walls of the hole, you dont want to knock or tear any scabs that may have formed.
If this is the case you may find it easier to soak the wound and dressing in water before you remove it so it softens it up. I found that has worked before.

Don't pull it out fast, if there are any clots you will pull them out and you may start bleeding. On the other hand don't pull it out slow I'm sure it is painful. If there is a such a thing as medium in this case. I would try for that. IF the boyfriend can take it let him. Good Luck

If you have any sterile saline, put that on the gauze to soften it before pulling it out. Also, if you have any pain medication, take it before removing the banadages

I would suggest your bf pulling it out slowly. I am sure you are in grave pain....just hang in there and if you must scream while he is pulling it out, do so in your pillow.
Hope you are on meds that will kill the virus that caused this boil. Good luck and God Bless you.
