it looks like it is not GOD who is speaking in that sura but somebody praying to GOD. I am a muslim but i dont understand arabic. I read the english translation of the HOLY QURAN.
Why does GOD say in verse 5 :Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek, and yet he himself is GOD?

1] In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

[2] Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds;

[3] Most Gracious, Most Merciful;

[4] Master of the Day of Judgment.

[5] Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek,

[6] Show us the straight way,

[7] The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace, those whose (portion) is not wrath, and who go not astray.

hi dear. thanks for Q. u know when islam was just emerged, the new people who were new-muslimed prayed for allah but their praying was wrong. coz they didn't know every thing about their religion. when they were praying (Doa) they used to ask everything they wished and every thing they could. then allah sent this holy surat to learn the muslims and Mohammad PBUH how to pray and ask Allah. it is one of the best surats in holy Quran and it is a prayer (Doa) itself therefor after reading or listening this surat it is good to say Ameen.
may god bless you. keep in touch

I am similar with you do not know the meaning of Arabic language.So I also read only on its translation.But I know that Suraa Al Faatihah is a short suraa which is given by Allah throu
gh Jibril angel to the last prophet Muhammad pbuh at Mecca as a first complete suraa It is called also as an introduction suraa or ummul kitaab or the mother of holy book.This suraa is a lesson from Allah to all muslims of how we should praise Allah who is loveful and pitiful.
We muslims should know that Allah is the omnipower in this earth and at the resurrection day.We should know that we must pray to Allah and ask for help in finding the right path which is blessed by Allah. and,not a mislead path This suraa contains the basic principles of Islamic syaria.In every praying this suraa should be read repeatedly at least 17 times a day..

Allah gave it to us in a way so we can say to him. this is the opening chapter of the Quran and the beginning of every prayer. this is the most important chapter in the Quran.

this is not the only verse that is written like this, there is also a "doaa" at the last two verse of chapter 2. those verses are very important as well.

Allah has sent this Surah for us to recite. Especially to keep our troubles away and also in sick health.

It's a Surah which summarizes the Muslim faith and is one of the most recited Surah by the muslims.

Have a nice day!

I think it was meant to be a prayer to God from muslims ,when we say (thee do we worship ) it means that we say this to God when we stand in front of him during prayer,this is why we must say this Sura in prayer .

It is God telling us what we are supposed to say. He has given it to us as a recitation (in fact "Al-Qur'an" means "The Recitation" in English).
God as said this so that it may be repeated by us, word for word.
