Boxing’s New Macho Man Hector Camacho, JR. Outclasses Opponent
By Dave Bitar-September 15, 2006
Hector “Machito” Camacho, JR., knocked out George Klinesmith at the HP Pavilion in San Jose Thursday night, in a super middleweight bout scheduled for eight rounds.
Though looking out of shape after weighing in at an excessive weight of 167 pounds, well above the junior middleweight limit of 154, Camacho, JR., 42-2-1, 24 KO's, completely dominated the fight. He had Klinesmith, 22-13-3, 13 KO's, down once in the first round, and twice in the second, before stopping him at 1:37 of the third round.
The difference in class was evident from the opening bell, as Camacho, JR.'s, better hand speed and talent carried the action. In the first, “Machito” landed a sharp straight left right up the middle, between the gloves of Klinesmith, landing squarely on the jaw. Klinesmith was momentarily stunned by the punch, before falling to the canvas.
The rest of the round, Camacho, JR., nailed him repeatedly with straight lefts and uppercuts as Klinesmith struggled to fight back. Camacho, JR., then lowered his attack in the second, working over the lean midsection of his opponent.
