Diabetes. She may also be urinating more frequently if she is diabetic. The diagnosis of type 1 diabetes and many cases of type 2 is usually prompted by recent-onset symptoms of excessive urination (polyuria) and excessive thirst (polydipsia), often accompanied by weight loss. These symptoms typically worsen over days to weeks; about 25% of people with new type 1 diabetes have developed a degree of diabetic ketoacidosis by the time the diabetes is recognized. The diagnosis of other types of diabetes is usually made in many other ways. The most common are (1) health screening, (2) detection of hyperglycemia when a doctor is investigating a complication of longstanding, unrecognized diabetes, and (3) new signs and symptoms attributable to the diabetes.

could just be she's thirsty as the answer above noted, but increased thirst and urination can also be a first sign of diabetes mellitus. It's good that you're taking her in to the doctor's, i'm sure they'll get it.

most likely dehydration....

anytime the electrolyte balance is disturbed in the body, it triggers you to drink more in order to restore the balance back to normal (called homeostasis)

it's also a side effect of diabetes but this disease is genetic and would most likely have shown up my now. but i'm glad you're getting her checked out just to be safe...

if she has eaten foods that are high in salt, drank an excessive amount of caffeine, or consumed alot of sugar recently-these could also trigger the need to drink more as all of these cause dehydration.

let her drink as much as she feels she needs to-but limit the amount of sodas, juices, or sports drinks she takes in-these can worsen the dehydration. water works best

This can be a side effect of Type 2 Diabetes. Be sure to get her blood surgar checked.
It can also be a symtom of too much salt consumption. While it may not mean she is eating more salted foods, salt can be found in large quatities in fast food and prepared foods.

If her eating habits have changed (less food) she might just be drinking liquids so keep an eye out for a possible eating disorder.
