Very good question. Many people believe that if you commit suicide you go to Hell. I think it's wrong to commit suicide, but I don't think it automatically bans you from going to Heaven. I know of no scriptural basis for that. Mabye I am ignorant of any scriptures, I'm sure I'll find out after I post this answer. But if you are a saved believer in Jesus, and you are destined for Heaven, and have a bad day and for some reason make the wrong decision, I don't think that means you are not going to Heaven. It seems odd that a Christian would do such a thing, so it probably rarely happens - I mean someone committing suicide going to Heaven. But there are mental illnesses out there that cause people to do all kinds of irrational things.

From what I have heard the catholics believe, if you commit suicide you won't go to heaven.

Now I don't know if there is heaven, but it would be great if there were... but in any event I can't imagine Jesus or God turning anyone away because they had to struggle with a mental illness or chemical imbalance, as it is proven that many people cannot help having suicidal feelings.

The form of death is of no consequence. How the person lived their life, is what matters.

The notion about suicide pre-emptying the path to bliss on the other side was introduced not by God, but by the church that wanted obedient servants. Church and those with wealth who lived an easy life exploiting those who had nothing, but hard work and duties, even denied them the right to take their own life, by introducing this false perception of a Divine commandment that God never made. The church/state alliance were after the person's labour, not after the person's fulfilment, or their fate as a Soul.

I am Roman Catholic, and I think all Christian religions would agree, that a person that dies in their sins cannot go to Heaven. They cannot go to Purgatory.

The man who dies in his sins would be consigned to Hell.

This does not mean God is wicked or "doesn't understand." For the family of the suicide, the only thing I can offer is a little song they sometimes sing about Christ during the Mass, "...We believe that we will see him when he comes in his glory. We remember, we celebrate, we believe."

I have been suicidal. I have been hospitalized three times for being suicidal. Even now I feel it.

A therapist told me that suicidal ideation is my personal way of dealing with my anxiety. And, honestly, what do we *not* have to feel anxious about?

If you personally are feeling suicidal, down, etc., please find someone that cares about you to talk to. That is the only thing that "really" helps. And see if medication could help, too.

In Dante's Inferno suicides became these trees in one of the circles of hell. In the Catholic religion if one commits suicide he is overwhelmingly likely to go to Hell, depending on the circumstances to Purgatory. Suicide is basically a self-centered act. If for some strange reason by killing himself he saved other people's lives like on TV sometimes, altruism, he would still go to Heaven.

First of all I hope you are not considering suicide!!!! Please get help if you are.
God loves you and only He can know the heart of a person and certainly how hurt and desperate someone is who would take their own life. The question comes down to salvation. Have you ever asked Jesus into your heart to cleanse you of your sins? Jesus said that He did not come into the world to condemn the world, but that through Him we might have Life and Life more Abundantly.
Jesus is the Way The Truth And The Life and any one who comes to Him shall have life eternal. Go to Jesus with this Question.......Find the answer in Him.

Did not Jesus say, "Come to me all ye who are heavy laden and I will give you rest?" I think that passage kinda covers it. I certainly am not promoting suicide as a way to Jesus, far from it. I do not believe that suicide is unpardonable in the eyes of God. Were that the case, it would have been so stated in the bible in my opinion.

Any one who commits suicide for any reason...his soul is struck in a loop of time, and he finds it very difficult to come out of this.

After a long painful looping, soul comes out of this loop and goes to some hell like planes...after long suffering there it takes a new birth in a lower category (poor or ill or idiot)

Yes, people who commit suicide are not mentally stable. They are ill, saying they don't would be like saying someone with alzheimer's disease don't go to heaven.
