You can know God only though wisdom. Wisdom is not a subject taught in schools or colleges or written in books. Wisdom is achieved through conquering ones own mind ... developing self awareness and self control on your senses ... which comes through watching your thoughts through your third eye ... practicing Meditation daily and regularly is one step to achieving closeness to God and for this you do not need to read any books, nor you need the eyes with which you see the world.
If everyone who knew how to read, were the only ones who could know God, then every one in this world who could read a book would have known God, but this is not true. Hence, anyone whether he can see or not, whether he can read or not, can still know god. Practice Meditation.
Thanks!

Only the literate are saved....the illiterate are doomed to spend eternity in hell....which is actually a big library....and the only way out of the library hell is to learn to read every book in the library with no assistance or guidance what-so-ever. You may not ask questions like why the word "know" is not spelled the same as "no", and why they sound the same, but have two different meanings. There are no teachers and questions are absolutely forbidden. The last book you need to read is......(oh ya...and you better figure out what that the Bible means...or your gonna be in this illiterate hell for a long time).
I humbly apologize for my sarcastic answer and I do not mean to offend those who believe in hell....but I just couldn't resist this one.

If you prefer to access knowledge of God directly from your heart, you are what others call a 'mystic', someone who seeks direct communication from God without interference from others or books.
The thing about books is that they give you instant access to all the billions of things other people have already thought about God over the centuries, and most of them are things you might not have thought of for yourself.

The blind men who are unable to read are more close to God and far far away for this materialistic world. Indian saint Bhagat Soordas is an ideal example of this.

If you went to Mass every week at a Catholic Church for three years you would have almost the entire Bible read to you.
You are correct though that God is all around you, in everything that you do, everyone you encounter, everything you suffer...

I agree with you. I think knowledge of God comes from our hearts, experiences, observations of nature, or reading Tarot cards ( hey, it could happen)

In the middle ages almost no one could read, and look how they turned out.

It is better to seek God in your ways than not at all. May God's footsteps be beside you always.

You can know God my friend and it will be very easy. You will have to do two things. One: say in your heart and mind " God I want to know you. Two: say in your heart and mind "God I am inviting you into my heart, make yourself real to me"
If you do that with God honestly He will make himself known to you. Good Luck
