The only police chase shows I see are these ones showing people getting caught or messing up somehow. So when the helicopter is out and the camera is on you like that, are you assured of being caught? Has no one ever escaped in that situation?

Tell me a story or better yet, give me a link, and get the points. Thanks.

Some have made it over the border with Mexico, off road of course. That's mostly because the vehical and the border were very close. It takes a while to get the news choppers and helicopters and requires a rich police department because helicopter fuel is over $300 for an hour of flight time. Now you look at the rich police departments and the range for a fill up and you can see right there, many of those you see on TV just have no place to go. You steal a car with a half a tank of gas and get spoted, you are looking at somewhere of about 200 miles before the vehical runs out of fuel.

This year a motorcycle driver here in California this year drove into a mall and got lost in the crowd and almost escaped. It was his motorcycle, which they found and he went to the police and claimed it was stolen. He was caught, so that's not the story you are looking for.

There is/was a show in Russia that they turned into a game show. Basically they give you a car with a tracking device and you are suppose to go from point A to point B. If you reach point B with the vehical, you keep the car. The "crooks" try everything, but the police on the show get their guy.

In the United States, a guy stole a car with a Lojack system and hid the vehical in his house. He was still caught.

If you really want to steal a vehical (and keep it), do it at a boarder town with Mexico or near a strip shop. Most people now just steal parts of a vehical like the wheels, mirrors, bumpers, airbags and music players. A new trend is to steal the registration and insurance stuff out of the vehical for identification theft.
