people quote Leviticus for the proposition that homosexuality is “an abomination.” ‘Course, they omit that little part where Leviticus says that the punishment for that there abomination is, um, death.
What’s a matter? Are ya squeamish about applyin’ the death penalty to th’ gays? It’s right there in the Bible, in black ‘n white. So to speak.
Or, are you sayin’ that “Line Item Jesus” omitted that provision o’ Leviticus? Show me where, in the New Testament (or “The Sequel,” if you will), Jesus says: Homosexuality - still an abomination; death penalty for homosexuality - repealed. ‘Cuz if he didn’t say that, then it seems to me your “inerrant word o’ God” requires you to advocate makin’ gay sex a capital crime. (What the heck, they’re doin’ it in Iran - so why not right here in the U.S. of A., huh?)

And, let’s just say, for the sake of argument, that Jesus did, um, “implicitly” repeal those parts of Leviticus and other Old Testament texts that make homosexuality punishable by death. Riddle me this, oh God fearin’ literal-Bible-readin’ Christians: What kind of God would have killed people for havin’ gay sex? I mean, its nice to think God got a little kinder and gentler over time, but really - when and under what circumstances would it have been, ya know, okay to kill gay people?
Or is it more of that moral relativism our friends on the right are so fond of - ya know, it was okay to impose the death penalty for gay sex way back in th’ days o’ Leviticus, but it’s not okay today?

I really want to know where these homosexuality-is-an-abomination folks stand on the issue. If they really, really believe that gay sex should be a capital crime, they ought to have the stones to say so out loud, in public - and accept the consequences. If they don’t believe that gay sex should be punishable by death, then they should explain why it was “appropriate” for the God of Leviticus to prescribe death for gay sex, and why they believe it’s not appropriate today.
C’mon, folks. I’m waiting …

Here is where the New Testament talks about homosexuality.
Romans 1:27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
FYI Jesus did not stone an adulteress that the Jewish leaders said should be stoned.
It's wrong but so is any sex outside of marriage. We accept people living together now. In the near future we will accept gays also. After that who knows where we will be. This is not the way God intended it.

"Abomination: It simply signifies that which is forbidden or unclean according to the religion. Linguistically it is therefore close in meaning to the Polynesian term taboo or ta'pu, signifying that which is forbidden, should be left alone and not touched, or (for some items) brings death by the act of touching."<1>
Following Wikipedia's definition of "Abomination" ... yeah, homosexuality is forbidden and unclean in religion ... yeah, it has been a social taboo ... bringing death I'm split on --- see AID's does bring death but not always & salvation is for those who repent (but not all repent). So, I would agree 80% with the saying that homosexuality is an abomination based on the definition and how religion outlines it.
Church teaches us to love the person, hate the sin ... so this is just a word that seems to make ppl mad which isn't too good.

Get me a stone. No I'm just teasing. I do believe that being gay is wrong but you know what, I will just leave it at that, because I don't hate gay people, just the sin. And I will just let God be the judge of it.
You on the other hand sound very angry. Why? If you have a probalem with God take it up with him, he will listen. If you don't believe in God, then why are you so angry. You have nothing to worry about. Are you mad at people because they have their own belifs and their own thoughts about homosexuals. I think it would be very sad to stone ANYONE. God does not work like that anymore, he still doesn't like the sin, but he loves all his children.

I have never thought it was an abomination, even when I was in Catholic school. I truly believe that people are born that way; in fact, if you google for facts about homosexuality, you will find information about several brain examinations that prove a difference in brain "wiring" in homosexuals from heterosexuals.
This does not mean it is a defect; it just means it's a difference.
People who use the Bible to back up predjudices conveniently forget lines or the differences in Old Testament and New Testament. (Too often, I see OT quotes used to promote Christian "ideals," when Christians claim that the OT is nothing more than historical background and provides no basis for dogma.) I have yet to hear a good religious or logical argument against homosexuality, and I would be the first one to admit it if I did!

to even tackle this question, you have to have a real understanding of the old covenant between god and the israelites, and of the new covenant established by the sacrifice of jesus. the penalty for all sin is still death, but jesus died for all sinners - so we dont have to die. the nature of sin has not changed one bit, nor the punishment - only who was punished. jesus didn't waste much time condemning sin; he spent most of his efforts teaching us how to love. he said "love covers a multitude of sins" if you recall. he also said "i did not come to bring peace, but a sword." a sword divides. the sword of truth divides you and i. the god of the old testament is the same god as the new. no inconsistency...the real question then is whether that god exists or not. if not, then as paul the apostle said, christians are more to be pitied than all men. if god is, then i guess the opposite is true.
if you really want to tackle issues like this, then let me refer you to someone far more intelligent than i; francis schaffer.
read his trilogy.
the god who is there
escape from reason
he is there and he is not silent
challenging post! i don't pretend to have answered it exhaustively, so please dont misunderstand...i dont waste time perpetuating evil by condemning people - not my job. my job is to love. i try to use a generous measure with my fellow humans, being just another leper in the colony. i dont even have the most fingers :)
peace to you, bombhead
i don't usually use a lot of scripture to answer questions, for obvious reasons, but you were addressing passages of the bible, so i felt it was appropriate. not that it matters...i dont think you are really interested in any serious intellectual discourse.

Males and females have been lying with the same sex for centuries. when the opposite sex is not available. or considered unclean as during the Females menstrual cycle.or if the male has contracted a sexual dis-ease.
also the lines that most quoit for saying that that is a sin are misreading the passages . especially the earlier ones . that applies mostly to farmers in planting their crops. only spreed the seed in places where it will grow to give you an abundant harvest.

If you want an informed answer by a prominent American ARCHBISHOP, one who is still practicing his faith in the highest possible Christian office and who ALSO believes that people have a right to live as they please so long as they don't hurt others, then find a book by Bishop Spong. Yes, that is his real name. He has a book with homosexuality in the title. It's absolutely brilliant. Take it up with him, if you dare.

Sin is sin, regardless of what it is. Consider Moses. Just one sin prevented him from entering the promise land. The question to ask yourself is whether it was what he did, or was it that he assumed that due to all the good he did, that God wouldn't notice the one little thing he did. He assumed to know what God thought about something.

Revelations 21:8. Are you gay? You sound angry, I hope the Lords replaces your anger with peace. This world is ran by satan, we are in the world, but are not of the world. Everyone is entitled to practice their free will given to us by God. We are no longer under the law. Stoning was in the Levitical law, we are under grace. Everyone is given a chance to repent of their sins and accept Jesus. If not, they will be judged after the rapture and Armagedon. Be patient it will all work out if you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Do not judge me for my answer you asked the question on Religion and Spirituality.
