My husband sprayed household ant spray in the apartment and they went away for alittle bit. They are back now since my step daughter left out her salty baking pan for a couple hours, we went to put it in the sink before bed and there were ants everywhere, I cant use or be around the sprays or anything and I dont want anything that my son could get into as he is only 1 and tends to be in everything. I have left a message for the manager telling her she needs to have someone spray outside for them but I dont know when she will do that and we cant have them come in to do it because of the pregnancy and my son. I've totally run out of ideas! I am thinking of having my husband bomb the place then me take him to work and be gone for a bit and have my stepdaughter come in to open the windows and we come back after its aired out so that i'm not harming this baby or my son. That is my last choice though as it will be a HUGE pain in the butt, but much better than being bit!

The best thing to get rid of ants is not a spray at all.... Buy Terro (liquid ant killer).....
I bought it at a hardware store but here is their website
http://www.terro.com

I am telling you it is the best ever. It works like you wouldn't believe.
It is just a liquid that you just drop onto the provided cardboard squares.
No smells, No nothing like sprays....Trust me and go and buy some.

Try liquid ant baits, it is a sugar-type liquid that the ants either get stuck or carry the poison back to the colony. They work for about 3-4 months for each one you place around the house. The type I used is called TERRO. I put one under the sink, the stove, above the top cabinets, under the micro. I had a superbad problem and it ended 1-2 days after laying these things down.
Good Luck, hope this helps.

While pregnant in the summer of 2005 I had ants ALL OVER my kitchen counter one morning when I woke up... we used the little round ant traps, but they really did nothing.

Like you I was nervous about poisons, being pregnant and having cats in the house.

Not sure what kind of ants you have, but the little reddish ones I had ALWAYS follow the same line once a food source is established so I figured out where they were coming from by watching/following the ones that were leaving. Then I put something down on the floor in their path to keep them from bothering to continue to the counters. Plus I put down lines of black pepper on the counter and they wouldn't cross them. (I had to stick it down in a few places around the edge of my counter with double faced tape.)

Then once I knew where they were coming from (under the back door's weather stripping in my case) I taped up the hole with some masking tape and put ant drops OUTSIDE to kill them off. Took a few days, and I left the tape on the hole until I could caulk it.

No more ants.
Good luck!

P.S. We also talked to a local exterminator and brought one of the ants in a bottle to verify what kind they were, that they didn't bite etc., that they build an outside nest (and weren't in the walls) and how they would best be gotten rid of.

I just gave birth on the first of this month, and I know exactly what you're going through! What was recommended to me, and worked, was having my hubby buy boric acid from our hardware store, and I then added honey to it... I'm sure plain sugar would work as well. I felt safer using this mixture than all of those chemical sprays/bombs. After it was mixed I simply put a few small saucers/bowls of it behind and around the ant's path. Congrats on your impending arrival and good luck!

Do you have family that you could visit for the day? You could always have your husband bomb the place in the morning and go visit family members until later that night. If you dont have any family memebers what about friends or people you are close with?

Good luck

sprinkle a substance called diatomacious earth along your doors and windowsills. it won't hurt people, but will tear up the carapace of insects and they will die.
