If you think you have a problem, you probably do, and when drinking costs you more than just money, its time to seek help. Couple of points on previous responders, AA is not religous, nor religious based, Many an athiest belongs and is sober with no conversion. There are a number of other programs out there to help too, many are based on AA principles, AA has been around some 70 years or so now, so it does have a reasonable track record. Go to a couple of meetings, listen to the similarities between the stories you hear as opposed to the differences, If you can, give it 90 days, if you dont feel better after that, go for a drink, its not for you. Keep an open mind, noone goes to something like AA for a laugh, drinking kills.
Good luck.

I'll ask you a simple question.
Do you know any "Social drinkers " who have had 2 DUI's in one month and need to drink a 1/5th to feel normal?
I would suggest you look up the nearest office of Alcoholics Anonymous in the phone book have a chat to someone there,
go to a 7-10 meetings.
AA is not religiously based. It is a spiritual treatment for the disease of Alcoholism. And seeing that it is by far and away the MOST successful treatment in the last 100 years bar none, then why not avail yourself of the best.
If you havent come to the conclusion you are one after that then just go back to what you are doing now.
Just try not to drive drunk hey. Cause doing serious time for vehicular manslaughter while drunk means time in a place where you dont bend over if you drop the soap in the shower.

You are definately an alcoholic, no kidding around here. Stop it now. If you were just partying on the weekends with friends, I'd say you were normal, but why the hell drink during the week. It's just wasting money & giving you headaches. Sounds like you need a girlfriend to occupy your time.

Only you can decide if you are an alcoholic. Alcoholism is a self-diagnosed and self-treated disease. There's a good questionnaire here:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/alcoholics-anonymous-20-questions.htm
and also here:
http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org/en_is_aa_for_you.cfm?PageID=15
that can help you decide if you need help.
If you decide that you do, I recommend looking up Alcoholics Anonymous in your local phone book and calling the number there. The folks you find can help you find rides to meetings, give you lots of support and friendship and information, and back you up as you work toward your recovery.
Good luck to you.

Yes, I am an alcoholic. Only got one DUI though. I drink at least a fifth each day. Go get help. AA is religious based. A detox clinic isn't.

You have a problem, you can't control your drinking and you are doing massive damanage to your life and lives of those that love you.
No one can stop you from drinking except you....If you have health insurance you should get inpatient treatment...
AA is great program but just showing up at meeting isn't your solutions. YOU HAVE TO WANT TO CHANGE.

If you have to drink alcohol - doesn't matter the kind or the amount - to feel normal, it's time to get some help. I applaud you for taking the first step of asking if you could be addicted. That takes strength.

Do what I do, take a shot of vodka every morning to start the morning, or just kill off all the alcohol in your house and go to AA meetings...
