I've read the responses so far and they sound correct. The only one that hasn't been answered is if you transfer to the Active Duty you will most likely be assigned to a unit and a base. Once you get some years under your belt, you could request a transfer to the base of your choice. You may or may not get it though. Here is a link with pay amounts. http://www.dod.mil/dfas/militarypay/newinformation/WebPayTableVersion2006updated.pdf As others have said if you live off base you will be paid a monthly stipend for food. Enlisted get $272.26 a month and you will get paid a monthly housing stipend. The amount depends on the city the base is in. Here is a website that will give you an idea as to the amount you would get paid. https://secureapp2.hqda.pentagon.mil/perdiem/bah.html Speaking from experience the BAH and BAS is paid in one monthly lump sum. You will get one check with you base pay, BAH and BAS (BAH and BAS are tax free) and the next check will have only base pay. So you will get a big check and then a pathetically small check. Hope this along with the others has helped.

married soldiers get a housing allowance if they choose 2 live off base which covers most of the housing costs. the pay depends on ur rank and the amount of years u spend in the service. starting out, the pay isnt really all that great. as far as choosing stations, the needs of the army come first so they will station u where they need u. hope this helps!

AGR(lively guard/reserve) is a lot diverse from lively duty. you paintings finished time for the reserve or guard unit you're assigned to. in spite of the indisputable fact that, you also favor to make certain there's a slot open and intensely a number of the positions require you to be an E-5(sergeant) or more beneficial. There are also only some slots open in accordance to unit. As for CIA, i'd flow with the others and wager intelligence or something like which will be a sturdy wager.

Depends on where you are stationed as to how much money (BAH) you will receive for housing allowance. It depends on your MOS where you will be able to go duty station wise. You can go to school wherever you are stationed. Either in a classroom environment or taking courses online. Plus you get tuition assistance that is different from using your MGIB. Take advantage of this! I would go active duty. We support 7 people on sergeant pay and the benefits are great.

On many posts if housing is limited, then rank makes a difference on being on the list. If you live off post, then you will receive a housing allowance based on the city in which you live. (you can google BAH charts once you know the post).
You will be e-4 within a year probaly and coud be E5 in two if you are squared away.
You need to consider your job, and what you will get out of it. You may want to consider changing your MOS.
All posts have colleges with them, and if you are not flagged you will get 100% tuition assistance.

Good luck to you. I can tell you this, your family will be taken care of. If you work hard you will go far.

Ah man. You'll probably live off base and get paid extra for housing and food. You can always take online classes and maybe classes where your at. Where you get stationed - unless you make prefered duty station as part of your contract its up to where ever they need you most. Which could be Korea (where you can't take your wife, min 1 year), Germany, or someplace deploying soon which means a year without your wife.

You will probably be going active here soon anyway. There is a war going on!! Then you will be given pee pee pay, hazard pay, and tax exempt from taxes if you are over there a year. Your family will have access to the military hospitals ect... I suggest you transfer out of the army and go coast guard.
