take a damp towel in a microwave...it does not last too long but it is effective. Doctors will tell you this. Also, taking a warm bubble bath works just as well and the heat lasts a lot longer.

You are going to love this. It is easy and will not get you wet! This is an old country heating pad and used to be heated on a hearth but a microwave will work just as well (especially if you don't have a hearth!) Fill a thick sock with uncooked rice. Not too full, though, as you want it to conform to whatever part of your body that has the hurt on it. Heat it in the microwave - sorry I cannot say for how long (individual microwaves vary LOL) The rice will hold the heat for a long time. Giving the "rice bag" a shake will release heat from the core so you won't have to keep getting up for a warm up. The sock will insulate you from a burn. You can reheat the "rice bag" many times. NO synthetic sox please - use only a natural fiber so it doesnt melt. Be well.

you can put a damp towel in the microwave for about twenty seconds. That should be hot enough to be a heating pad for a while at least. Then just reheat it when it feels cool again.

We used to take a plastic bottle (like a Windex Bottle) that is empty and fill it with really hot water. Close up tight, and you are set! When it cools off, just put it in the microwave.

You can make a toddy bag! Take a bag of rice- uncooked. Put it in a small fabric bag or pillow case. Put the rice in the microwave for a couple of minutes. You can make a permanent fabric bag for this and re-use it over and over. They work wonders for all kinds of aches and pains!
