I am usually a hermit, you have to peel me off the walls to get me out of my house, and I hate being in any place where a crowd might be.

So I decided to try something out.

If you have a vehicle, try a job like a delivery driver for food, not taxi..lol

This way you get to be around people but not long enough to make you uncomfortable, it gives you a chance to get use to be around people.

I have been doing it for about 3 months now and so far so good, I am still not a social bug by far, but it is calming me down and getting me use to being around people a little more and not go into a panic attack.

slow process but hey its better than nothing at all or have to end up on meds which I was for a short period of time and found it wasn't for me.

Social anxiety disorder is also known sometimes as social phobia. What you need is to get over the "fear" of things. You need to go to a counselor for that. If they see fit, they will send you to a psychiatric doctor. Good luck.

I have social anxiety. I get very nervous around groups of people. Constantly feeling like everyone is looking at me or talking about me.

What I do is go to group things with someone I know and that I am comfortable with. It helps me alot because when I start feeling nervous or paranoid, I have someone to talk to and take my mind off of it. It helps to talk to your friend and another person also to kind of put you out there a little.

Hi,

The most effective therapy currently available is cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT). In some cases, medication may also be used to help ease the symptoms of social anxiety disorder so that CBT is more effective.

Cognitive-behavior therapy: The goal of CBT is to guide the person's thoughts in a more rational direction and help the person stop avoiding situations that once caused anxiety. It teaches people to react differently to the situations that trigger their anxiety symptoms. Therapy may include systematic desensitization or real life exposure to the feared situation. With systematic desensitization, the person imagines the frightening situation and works through his or her fears in a safe and relaxed environment, such as the therapist's office. Real life exposure gradually exposes the person to the situation but with the support of the therapist.
Medication: There are several different types of medications used to treat social anxiety disorder, including: antidepressants, like Paxil; tranquilizers (benzodiazepines), such as Xanax, Librium, Valium, and Ativan; beta-blockers, often used to treat heart conditions, may also be used to minimize certain physical symptoms of anxiety, such as shaking and rapid heartbeat.
