Sometimes friends opinions can mean good or like what you said, "don't like the guy so don't want to see you with him". If you are concerned about the rumour like he is bad or the type that play around with girls feelings, you should find out for yourself. Know him a bit more. Talk to him, find out more but don't jump into relationship or fall into his flirts. Be normal friends, at least if you find out that your friends are right, you will not cause yourself any harm or get into any embarrassing situations.
