jeremiah 8-8 and the rsv bible same verse.it reads ['how can you say we the jews are wise,and the law of the Lord is with us but behold the false pen has made it into a lie]... [when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely.]my question,.is this saying that the book is not pure?that the scribes put in or took out things that were common knowledge back then?what exactly is the meaning?sounds to me that it has become so corrupted it has become a lie,according to the Bible.or atleast the versions im lookin at.

"Woe to you experts in the law, because you have taken away the key to knowledge. You yourselves have not entered, and you have hindered those who were entering."

What "knowledge" and what "key"? So, he's saying that a key has been taken away (scripture?).

The above is just one verse the Catholics didn't manage to erase in time. The bible itself demonstrates its own corruption. The verses you post are dealing with the law. The original law was only the ten commandments and nothing else, to these they falsely added 613 additional ones. This is why Jesus wrapped the whole "Law and the Prophets" into one single commandment of love. He knew it was corrupted, and they knew he knew, that's why they murdered him (not for "blasphemy", but for being clever and knowing his stuff and they didn't like it).

The law of the Lord The "Torah," or written law, the possession of which made the priests and prophets so boastfully exclaim, "We are wise."

Lo, certainly ... Rather, Verily, lo! the lying pen "of the scribes" hath made it -- the Law -- into a lie. The mention of "scribes" in this place is a crucial point in the argument whether or not the Pentateuch or Torah is the old law-book of the Jews, or a fabrication which gradually grew up, but was not received as authoritative until after the return from the captivity. It is not until the time of Josiah (2 Chr. 34:13) that "scribes" are mentioned except as political officers; here, however, they are students of the Torah. The Torah must have existed in writing before there could have been an order of men whose special business it was to study it; and therefore to explain this verse by saying that perhaps the scribes were writers of false prophecies written in imitation of the true, is to lose the whole gist of the passage. What the scribes turned into a lie was that Law of which they had just boasted that they were the possessors. Whatever you do, don't attempt to read one verse of the Bible and figure that you don't understand it. Non believers should rely completely upon commentarys, because they do not have the Spirit of God to show them the way.

The lying scribes are those that had substituted God's Word for man's tradition. You can see what this refers to by looking at the Midrash, the Mishnah, and the Talmud.

By the time of Jesus Christ, these extra-biblical rules and regulations that "explained" what the Bible said or meant, were condemned by Him.

As He said here, "You abandon the commandment of God and hold to human tradition." Then he said to them, "You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to keep your own tradition! For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and 'Whoever curses his father or mother must certainly be put to death.' But you say, 'If anyone tells his father or mother, "Whatever support you might have received from me is Corban,"' (that is, an offering to God) you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother. You are destroying the word of God through your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many other things like that." (Mark 7:8-13)

The Bible that Jesus would have used was the same as the Dead Sea Scrolls or the Septuagint. These were both generally available at the time. Jesus even quoted from Isaiah in a prophecy about Himself and what He would do. (Luke 4:17-21)

Further, Jesus said this about the Word of God, as contained in the Bible: "For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not one letter or one stroke of a letter will disappear from the Law until everything has been accomplished. So whoever sets aside one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:18-19)

Thus, what Jeremiah is referring to is the abandonment of true Scripture, in favor of the traditions of men.

Christians of old are like muslim of today. Yes, the King James version was approved by King James, who can really understand that? Did he actually read it, or speculate after a few briefings? They were violent and killed many people. They also degraded women, much like Islam today. What is religion? Did they really hand it to us? Shouldn't we just throw all these writings away and be peaceful? The christian bible says only 144, 000 will be saved, does that mean the rest can do as much bad as they want, cause it don't matter? There is probably more than 144,000 people in Texas, California, .........

All modern English Bible translations are wrong. And there are several, not just two or three. I have two Parallel volumes that have 8 different translations in each one. The differences in translations are sometimes mindboggling. It will really show you how messed up some of these bibles are.


The most beautiful and traditional and most accurate to the original scrolls, Catholic Bible in English is the Douay

The Douay-Rheims Bible is an English translation of the Latin Vulgate Bible, a version universally used in the Church for over 1500 years, itself meticulously translated from
the original Hebrew and Greek by St. Jerome (A.D. 340-420).

In 1546, the Council of Trent declared the Latin Vulgate Bible as authentic, and declared that “No one (may) dare or presume under any pretext whatsoever to reject it” (4th Session, April 8, 1546).

In 1943, Pope Pius XII stated that the continuous use of the Vulgate Bible in the Church for many centuries showed that it was “free from any error whatsoever in matters of faith and morals” (Divino Afflante Spiritu (1943), paragraph 21).

In 1749-1752, Bishop Challoner, knowing that many English Catholics were reading distorted Protestant versions of the Bible such as the King James Version (KJV), made major revisions to the Douay-Rheims version, to improve its readability without diminishing its accuracy.

The revised Douay-Rheims Bible has been approved by the Church many times over, including the approbation of Cardinal Gibbons for the 1899 edition that Baronius Press is publishing.

For over 300 years, the Douay Rheims Bible was the only Catholic English translation of Scripture used. It continues to be used officially in Catholic churches today.

Many anti-Catholics accuse the Church of having hidden Scripture from the faithful by refusing to translate it into the vernacular tongue. The Douay-Rheims was completed in 1609, and is therefore older than the King James Version, the oldest Protestant translation still in use, which was published in 1611. The Rheims New Testament was published nearly thirty years earlier, in 1582.

Further, the translators of the KJV make specific reference to the Douay version in their translators’ preface. It is commonly acknowledged that, in preparing the KJV, the translators made use of the Rheims New Testament and adopted many of its readings in preference to those of other English editions.

Since it was translated quite literally and with great reverence for each individual word from the Vulgate, which in turn reflects the structure of the original languages very clearly, the Douay-Rheims Bible can give great insight into the minds of the sacred authors.
