Ankylosing spodylitis is a disorder that is similar in some ways to arthritis but the major site of difficulty is the spinal column. Inflammation of the vertebral joints can lead to pain mobility problems and discomfort. In more severe and advanced cases the chronic inflammation can lead to new bone formation over the effected vertebral joints causing spinal immobility. While there is no known cure, and the causes remain unknown, there are therapies to diminish the pain and manage the symptoms.
