Start training her now, of the things that she can and can't do! Especially with the clawing/scratching things! A good way to train them what to do, and what not to do is with a spray bottle of water. It really gets the point across! Cats are pretty easy maintence though, and don't need much of any training besides that one. I'd make sure to get her plenty of toys to entertain her, so she stays out of mischief. A scratch pole will keep her busy for hours! :)
Also, I'd make her an indoor only cat, they tend to live a lot longer lives!! Also, be sure to get her shots, and vet care! Good luck on your new baby!! :)

make sure there's a litter box for her and keep it in the same location so that she can know exactly where to go when she needs to go. for now, feed her kitten food. if it seems like it takes her a while to eat or if it seems to be hurting her mouth to chew the kibble, then pour a little water on it to soften it. DO NOT USE MILK! milk will make her stomach upset and that's just a whole 'nother world of hurt for you and her. take her to the vet to get her started on vaccines and get her dewormed. when she gets to be about 6 months old, get her spayed. DON'T WAIT UNTIL SHE GOES INTO HEAT! because then she'll get bred and then you'll have her and a bunch of other little babies to worry about it. set boundaries for her. if you don't want her to get up on a certain surface, give her a pop on the butt and say "no!" and make sure you do this every time she does it so that she gets the idea and doesn't get confused. i could go on for a while, but instead, i suggest you go to petsmart and purchase a book on raising cats/kittens.

I just got a kitten, too. And I've noticed:
>They scratch a lot! So, you should have something for her to scratch on.
>They really are curious! They will find anywhere they are not supposed to be, and be there! So cover up those tiny spaces!
> They have tons of energy! Even in the middle of the night, so wear her out during the day.
> I read in "Kittens for Dummies" that they have a need for hunt, companionship, scratch and privacy.(hunt means play (lots of toys and stuff))
>They take lots of patience.

She'll be fun, and you'll love discovering her personality as she grows older!

There is a book called

Think Like a Cat: How to Raise a Well-Adjusted Cat--Not a Sour Puss by Pam Johnson-Bennett

I read it and it was a big help in getting the cat to use a scratching post instead of the couch.
