For my reception, I get to pick two entrees from the menu that the caterer provides.

My fiance wants one to be the roast beef with gravy, and I have to choose between chicken or ham. Our wedding is in the beginning of december (I don't know if that matters).

Anyway, the chicken choices are either chicken marsala (and I don't know what that is) or baked with gravy.

I have no idea what kind of gravy, but I'm assuming it's a white type, and the roast beef's gravy is the dark type. The ham is just plain old baked ham.

I just want opinions. Ham or chicken (and which type?)

Our sides are mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, and fruit salad.

Either would be good with the sides, but I think most people prefer chicken to ham. I'd choose chicken if it were me.

I would go with the ham since the beef comes with the gravy. I don't think most people would get chicken marsala on their own when ordering out, and the other baked chicken has gravy. You really don't want both dishes that are the same. Both meats can go with the sides that you have selected. Good Luck!!! Hope this helps. This is just what I would do.

I'd go with the baked chicken. Chicken marsala has a red sauce. Ham would be great but you are in December and that's a big ham month for many families at the holiday. Baked chicken gives an alternative to the heavier beef.

You already have a red meat,, even though you dont really class ham as a red meat,, i think people who are a little fussy with food would appreciate the chicken.. bit more of a variety.. One White meat choice and one red meat choice......... you should check up and see what your chicken choice is because i think it would be better to have two choices that are quite different....... just gives more of a choice for guests and if someone doesnt like one, having somethin completely different will give them a better chance of eating at your wedding!!!! By the way chicken marsala is a chicken dish with a wine and mushroom type sauce,, nice difference if you are already going for roast beef and gravy!!

Chicken is usually preferred to ham in my experience (could be that its healthier who knows). I personally would go with the chicken marsala (I am a fan of that dish). Here is a link to what chicken marsala would be like http://chicken.allrecipes.com/az/ChickenMarsala.asp
(keep in mind no two people ever make a dish the same exact way). You best bet is to request that your caterer let you have a sample of each so that you can decide which tastes the best. If youre not pleased with their chicken marsala then perhaps you will be pleased with the baked chicken or the ham instead. Never settle for 2nd best, not with the going rates of most weddings these days.

Well I think I would go for the chicken...it just sounds better than ham.
I looked up Chicken Marsala and it sounds very yummy.
Marsala is actually a wine that is used in the recipe....as well as mushrooms.
Because you are already having gravy with the beef...then don't choose gravy with the chicken as well. Too much gravy!

Your best choice is the chicken marsala because you really don't want ham and roast beef they are too close and you don't want two gravy dishes. You have decided on a really good meal for your wedding! Congratulations!

Since you are already going to have roast beef with gravy, I would go with the chicken marsala for a little diversity. It is about as different as you can get from the beef without being sea food.

Go with chicken. If you're already having something as heavy as roast beef, go with something lighter and less greasy like chicken.

Chicken marsala is more formal--it's in a wine sauce. It's actually quite good. You can order it at any halfway nice Italian restaurant to give it a try. Here is a link to a recipe: http://www.italianchef.com/marsala.html

Definitely go with chicken, though. It is much more universally liked than ham, and is a more wedding-y food.

I'd go with the chicken since you might have a few folks who don't eat "red" meat and/or have some religious prohibition against eating pork. Chicken Marsala is a chicken patty (usually breast) with a mushroom and sherry type wine sauce on it - even when it is done not very well it is usually very good. Good Luck

I love ham, but I'd probably go with chicken. Chicken marsala is very good-you can just google it to find out what it consists of.
