I myself ponder for a moment the idea that I should do something to help a society that doesn't deserve it, and always come to the same conclusion that I did the day before- that there are alot of people I don't like and would be hypocritical in my beliefs if I were to do something to benefit them in any way. This is the reason I'm not a doctor or a paramedic.
I simply couldn't bear the thought of saving the life of someone I utterly despise and want to kill. I certainly don't want to make their lives any easier if they impact my life in a negative way.
For instance: I am extremely displeased at the way may tax dollars are being spent. I don't work hard every day to watch the next door neighbor do nothing and collect a welfare check simply because she is a single mother. There is a cheap babysitter in town and jobs available even for highschool dropouts not more than ten miles away.
By what logic would I therefore attend a benefit and donate money to a charity that supports knocked up teenage sluts?

This is just a start.

I feel that any effort on my part to make the world a better place will likely go unnoticed and those who might notice probably would lack the intellectual depth to appreciate it anyway.
I have come to this conclusion having seen the six o'clock news and observed the public's reaction to things any reasonable person SHOULD consider beneficial but do not. Instead, they whine, *****, complain, fuss, piss around, groan and are generally unsatisfied and unappreciative of any of it so **** 'em. Why should I bother? I can't think of a reason to, so I don't.
After I come to this same conclusion every night I come to another inescapable conclusion about life itself:

That the Author of the Universe must be a profound sadist who hates all things with a dark and bitter passion.
Life is nothing more than the ultimate butt to some grand cosmic joke.

I eventually resign myself to it, realise that there is little or nothing that I can consciously do about it and find myself pondering ways to improve my own life in a manner that will lead to satisfaction one way or another.
I make plans to that effect which usually involve banging the local skank after work, petting my dog, consuming massive amounts of alcohol and narcotics followed by an evening of reading while listening to Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets and Orchestra in 'C'.

While sleeping, I dream of pushing the button...

I try NOT to think before I go to sleep, because then I just lay awake for hours and hours while my brain hops from one subject to the next!

I drive in silence for my 2-hr drive home and think about all sorts of things then, in order to clear my mind so I can sleep at night. Some of the things I think about are what did I do today that I could've done better (talking with people, handling a situation, etc.) and I try to figure out how I can be better in similar situations in the future. I also try to think about unsolved problems that arose during the day and try to solve them as much as possible while I'm driving, so that I can go to work the next day with the solution ready to implement.

I think about everything that happened during the day, the future, the past, etc. If I'm falling for anyone, I think about them too. I think about the people I have relationships with. I worry about the "dark clouds" hanging over my head-- unfinished projects, looming deadlines. Random thoughts swirls through my mind. It's a jumble of stuff.

And to shut it all up I listen to some music so I can go to sleep.

Before I go to sleep I like to review my day and check for any mistakes i've made to people. (Being rude, etc.)

I like to recall these events and think about what I could have done to be a better person. The next day I will remember these thoughts and enforce them in my everyday life.

This is just my way of self-improvement :D

The first thing I wonder is did I do everything that I should've done today? The next thing is what is in store for me tomorrow? Then finally, then did I do everything in my power to do everything I need to do today. If I'm ok with all these answers, I guess it's time to print.

I say different affirmations to myself - pertaining to whatever is going on in my life at the time. The repetition lulls me to sleep & keeps me from having "monkey mind" (thoughts that jump from branch to branch)

To be honest its hard to say, I don't think anyone thinks of the same thing everytime he goes to bed. It depends on how your day went or if something is keeping your mind busy.
