Because back in the days when the English empire owned three quarters of the world we imposed are rule and are language and we ruled for a long time.
not say that most countries rebelled against us as they had the right to do so that's why most countries second language is English
and most businesses deal in the English language because it is easier but nobody understand politicians cus they all w**kers and they don't want anyone understanding them

Because of the strategic importance of the Commonwealth, where English was the first or second language, and former colonies, such as the United States. The French couldn't compete with that!

The only reason it has become the second language for a lot of people is the fact that it is very easy to learn the basics in grammar and structure.
It is easier for e.g. a Latvian and a Spanish person to learn adequate English than to learn one anothers language to the same degree.
However much the Enlish deny it themselves, their language became a creole or pidgin soon after the Norman invasion, and that is its strength today.

Generally French in international business is equally used. English and French are by far the most universal languages used in international business today.

I think it probably has. The most common language is chinesse or mandarin. The next most common is english. These are the primary languages of their countries.
Looking at ths list of people speaking chinesse i would guess most of them would probably have english as a second language.
Even when you look further down the list a fair number of countries the people will also speak english, much more likely english than speaking chinesse.

Accident of history. With a temperate climate, local edible varieties of wheat, domesticable wild animals, more or less made of coal, and surrounded by oceans (full of fish and an effective border), Britain had a bit of a head start and got on with the colonizing. Compare all those factors with everywhere else in the ancient world.

It was a close run thing for a while, but since the only true superpower left is the USA and they are as bad as the British for not learning foreign languages, and the internet has flourished in English, everyone else just has to learn.

Unfortunately, the English language has been bastardized by the Americans, so it is with deep regret that I inform you that the universal language now seems to be English, but is not!
