There is something in plastic that attracts cats(a chemical that reacts like catnip to them).... Plus they are fun to fling around!!! I had a cat who'd climb into any plastic bag he could find, we'd get groceres and Teddy would climb into the first bag he could squeeze into....

Most cats love items like that that are small and can be easily flipped. My mom's cat loves hairties for the same reason. The items are small and easy to scoot across the floor and lightweight enough to pick up and move around. Also the bright colors, textures, and "food" smells of most of the small items your cat plays with are what attracts the animal.
To entertain your cat try hiding treats under small, plastic, disposable, medicine cups on a hard floor and watch them go nuts!
Another fun thing you can do is to tape a cardboard box shut and cut cat sized flaps on all four sides and allow them to play. I even made a two box tall "cat tower" with boxes taped together and a hole cut between the two. Cats love being in weird places...

My 16 year old Cat Bobby that passed away in July absolutely loved those things! He would catch one and announce it to the entire house by yowling and then play with it and then sometimes he would bring them to me during the night. I awoke one morning and found 5 of them under my covers! I miss him so much.

I don't know. I think maybe it reminds them of a bug. My cats like roaches too.
For the record, a "milk rihg" is the ring you pull from around the top of a new milk-jug.

I'm not sure since only one of my cats loves them. She seems to enjoy the fact that she can flip them.

Seriously!
You can spend hundreds of dollars on toys and they play with trash. Silly cats.

It's small and springy--it seems to run away from them on it's own! The same goes for rubber bands, trashbag ties, and packing peanuts.

They like the way that they move when they smack them. Plus, they can hook them with their claws and throw them in the air.
Small paper wads are fun, too.
