my new chair doesn't seem to be colourfast. How do you get it to be colourfast?

When the chair is up against the wall, the colour from the chair shows up on the wall.

spray it with SCOTCH-GARD... you can purchase it most anywhere, same place where they sell laundry soap and spray starch etc.

If by new, you mean you bought it retail, call the store, you may have to take it back. If it is new used, scotchgaurd might work. fastening a piece of white cloth (towel) to the back of the chair should stop the color transfer.
