Why if we are led by the same God and the same spirit why do we worship and believe in doing the same things?

There are a lot of verses in the Bible that are ambiguous. There are also a lot that are simply taken out of context. Pentecostals lean on the verse in the story of the coming of the Holy Spirit, when people from all the known world at the time heard the gospel proclaimed in their native tongues. They believe that this verse tells us that the only valid evidence of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is to speak in tongues. They also believe in getting so caught up in the Spirit in prayer, that they begin talking in a "prayer language" that is unintelligible to others.

The Church of the Nazarene believes that the gift of tongues is just one evidence of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and by no means the most important. We further believe that the gift of tongues is a temporary gift, given by God so that someone present who otherwise could not understand the presentation of the gospel, can hear and understand. If someone speaks in an "unknown tongue" and there is not someone else present who can only understand that tongue, we do not believe that is the gift of tongues.

As to why we are led by the same God and the same Spirit but don't always believe the same things, that's because we're imperfect humans. But as Christians, we can agree on enough basic principals that we can get along, and work together to bring the Good News to a lost and dying world.

division is Satan's way of trying to keep us from uniting and then he would be toast..if every believer actually worked in the power of the Holy Spirit that we have available we would be unstoppable. Because true believers have the ability to work in the gifts that Jesus promised, heal the sick, drive out demons and etc ,but so many "Christan's" do not believe that either, even though it is in the bible, just like the spirit intercedes for us with moans and groans that no man can understand, speaking in tongues is biblical and it is a gift of the spirit, it is a shame that many do not allow the spirit to work through them. I belong to a church that believes that "speaking in tongues is actually just speaking in a language known to man, But I believe the bible where it says in Romans 8:26
"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express." Man can not understand the prayer only God can understand!

They truly believe in the 2ND chapter of the book of Acts. Speaking in tongues is a spiritual gift for charismatic believers, you may not have that gift. Some churches believe that the spiritual gifts were only given in the day of Pentecost, other churches believe they are very much alive today on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you cannot do it yourself.
Faith is required, if you believe, it will happen, if you doubt that the spiritual gifts no longer exist, how can they be manifested in your life.

Pentecostals aren't the only ones who speak in tongues. You must speak in tongues as the 'Spririt of God gives the utterance. It's not something one does on ones own. When you receive the Holy Ghost you are given the evidence of speaking in tongues, but you may never do it again, only if the Spirit gives you the gift.

There are people in other churches who talk in tongues but they do it according to the boundaries of Scripture unlike some of the out of control Pentacostal churches that are similar to the church in Corinth.

1 Corinthians 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. 27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

Some, but not all, Pentacostal churches are very similar to the church in Corinth. Everyone is proud of his or her spiritual gift, especially the gift of tongues and they show off in front of others whether there is an interpreter or not. I belong to a non-denominational church and I wouldn't know that anyone in the congregation spoke in tongues if I was a visitor because except on rare occasions when someone who also has the gift of interpretation speaks in a tongue and then translates no one disrupts the service by using this gift except in a quiet prayerful way that isn't obvious to others.

Vodoun priests and priestesses manifest similar behaviors to that of the Pentecostals, behaviors such as rolling around on the ground, flailing their arms and legs and babbling in an unrecognizable languages, when they are ridden by their Loa.

Different churches make bigger focuses on different parts of the Bible. Many Baptise infants when in the Biblical times only adults who personally chose to be baptised were baptised. You have to decide by reading your Bible what you feel is the most Biblical way to go.

They don't know what they're saying. In Biblical times, speaking in tongues was actually done for a purpose, and a translator was present in case no one understood what was being said. Now, churches only do it for entertainment purposes.

They are just trying to impress others by blathering. They don't know what they are saying and neither does anyone else.
