I own 1 full blood male husky. he is pretty small for a husky, top of his head is up to my mid thigh. He is almost 2 years old. he is hyper as can be, loves to tear up stuffed animals and play fetch, and has never met a stranger.
I also own a german shephard/husky male. he is about 7 years old. He is much larger, top of his head is about up to my waist. he looks like a husky (has the facial markings, curled tail, and bye-eyes) except he has the big ears of a german shephard. He is a lot more laid back, extremely protective of his "little brother", and a little more defensive.
They both love to be outside-walking, hiking, and especially running. The younger one loves car rides older one hates em.
I live in an apartment complex so i have a lot of people walking by my house and they do bark once or twice when someone walks by. they will bark if someone knocks on the door. the younger one whoos when we get home from work. it isnt a howl like some people think it sounds just like wooo. you will know it when you hear it.
i wouldnt say that they protect my family. like i said the older one is very protective of the younger one. on two separate occasions we have been out walking them and the younger one has been attacked by unleashed dogs (once a boxer and once a doberman pinscher) both times the older one jumped in between the younger one and the other dog. they would never scare of any robber who knew anything about huskies. they are horrible guard dogs! in all reality if anyone ever got in my younger one would be more concerned on seeing who they were and my older one would take the opportunity of someone not knowing him and his escape artist self to try to get out. huskies are amazing escape artist and very clever. and if they get out there natural inclination is to run so they may run miles on end before even turning around to look or stopping. hope this helps. email me if you have any questions

i have one now - she is three years old and acts like a 3 year old - everything you read in books is true. you can't let them off leash - they are escape artists - and you have to have the time and energy to keep the entertained. if you let them entertain themselves they will destroy your house (i should give you pics of my kitchen floor!! lol) always keep them in a crate - again - alone at the house is NOT a good idea. they do shed a TON - be prepared to brush at least every other day and vaccuum every day. besides that they are a sweet dog that loves to please and loves attention - mine actually barks a lot - it's high pitched though and then she starts to "talk". do your research and make sure that you are in this for the long haul and you aren't getting a husky because you think they are pretty and you like the blue eyes...they are work....there are too many abandoned huskies in shelters right now b/c people didn't realize what work they were - so please think it thru and make sure the husky is the right dog for you

yes I do. My dog is coolest thing on the planet! They are good, they listen well (my dog I say has selective hearing! lol!)My dog doesn't bark, she just wimpers but she's old so maybe that has something to do with it. My dog is a female so I wouldn't know if females are just as agressive as males when it comes to protection but my dog is old like I said before so she can't really do stuff anymore.
