And please do not answer that he suffered physical pain, because I think we all would suffer what he did if we knew we were going to Heaven afterwards.

Good question...this quote that I stumbled across kind of sums the whole thing up.

"OK, now let me see if I got this straight, because what it sounds like you're telling me is that God sent His boy to His people so that His people could kill His Boy in order to save them from the wrath of.....God."

I don't remember where I found this quote, but struck me as simple, yet precise.

There were several sacrifices made by God and Jesus but the most important one Jesus made was the sacrifice of his perfect human life. He had always been with God since he had been created and that was difficult for him once the rememberance of having been in heaven was opened up to him at his baptism. He suffered hunger and thirst and probably lonliness and all the other emotions all of us suffer, so that he could be 100% human and understand us completely. God watched all of his suffering and betrayal and heartache from being rejected by the very people he came to save. That had to have been hard for God as it would have for any other father. What a wonderful thing they did for us and soon we shall benefit fully from all of it.

Jesus, the 2nd person in the Holy Trinity is God, and he had been in heaven for all eternity. There was no doubt he was also going back there.

The sacrifice consisted of him becoming a man, living for 33 years in a dismal place, combating the forces of evil the whole time, then suffering and experiencing physical death.

Jesus' entire life was a sacrifice for others.

Nothing that he did was for himself.

You are missing a few points (not to fight but: facts):
1. Jesus was/is human - so had free will - yet stayed committed to following GODs plan to save humanity.
2. You fail to comprehend the "taking on all humanities sins onto himself" part - who would do that willingly?
3. None of the humans THEN - or even TODAY - understand what Jesus and GOD did for humanity.
The people saw a human dying on the cross - it took word of mouth to explain why. Which slowly spread from person to person, community to community. Interesting: How could 1 death on a cross be different than the millions that died this way?

What do you mean where was the sacrifice? The things that Jesus had to go through his entire 33 1/2 years on this earth was the sacrifice! Have you not read the sacrifice?

he went to hell first...he descended and went into hell and took the keys and also preached the gospel to those who went before he had came to earth...that is why NO ONE will have an excuse before the throne of God!
BTW when Jesus was on the cross the Father turned his face away because at that point Jesus had become sin he had become a curse to remove the curse of sin on us.
Deuteronomy 21:23
you must not leave his body on the tree overnight. Be sure to bury him that same day, because anyone who is hung on a tree is under God's curse. You must not desecrate the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.

God turned away because God can not even look upon sin because he is so Holy..Jesus for the first time felt the separation from God the Father. this is found in Mark 15:34
And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

If you really knew what the Lord did for you you would fall on your face and worship him..If you only knew

Jesus could have used his powers to get away from his captors, but he died willingly for our sins instead.

God had to be there in Heaven watching as His precious son was tortured, so God had to hold back from killing the whole group of people torturing him.

It was a perfect man who sinned and that was Adam. To balance out the scales of justice, it took another perfect man not sinning even up to his death to do this. It was a great sacrifice on God's part. Just think now. If you had a son, would you send him to a strange place where people would spit on him, beat him with all kinds of metal and bone and whips, nail him to a torture stake and then watch him die without doing something about it instantly. Of course you would stop all this if you had the power to. God has this power and yet didn't use it. He did sacrifice his son for our benefit. The Bible says that God is Love and that is how much God loves us and that is to provide us a way out of certain death with no resurrection where we would stay dead forever. Jesus, also knows how much God loves His human children and that is why Jesus was willing to die to save us.

God,became human and had human pain.problems, and was beat almost to death, and hung on a cross to slowly bleed to death ,so his blood would forever cover any and all to come after that day, if they excepted him ,and what he did. God didn't have to have any more blood sacrifices from men, using animal from that day on. Jesus walked for over 30 years as a human, down here with all those people just like today, acting like animals, killing, raping, hurting each other. And all he could do was talk to them and love them even though they,a lot of them just like today hated and despised him, because people love sin, they have fun at it and go out of their way to do it,and on purpose. And think it's cool. Never thinking they are so close to death every breath they take.
And sit stupidly like they will always live forever just like they are right now, just like some mindless, brainless, animals,no thought of tomorrow...none!

according to Christians Jesus was God therefore immortal. how can an immortal being really die? so apparently Jesus staged a passion play and everyone involved were merely actors. all the bad guys ... Judas, Pilate, Caiaphas. the Pharisee all just playing the roles assigned to them. they couldn't have played it differently. there's no free will when playing a part in a play. the show must go on according to the script(ures).

The Lamb was pure, without spot. That is the sacrifice It has nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not God knew.

I'd never even thought of it in that way. It would be more of a sacrifice if he had suffered forever in hell.
