I am typing tables with text in MS Word 2003 and importing into Indesign. I am finding the table cells I create in Word are not keeping the styles ie the text in the table cell is all vertically squashed in Indesign but looks perfect in Word. Am using mac so the space before and after is 3pt. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi daniswired :) I created docs on a pc (cause I work some hours from home) and send the files to my boss, via email, who is using mac. The docs end up on a mac as we only use the mac for publishing. I place the doc in IDCS2 via: File Place and navigating to the folder that holds the Word doc. I am using Verdana font in different styles ie normal, normal bold and italic as well as arial rounded bold. I really appreciate any help :)

When you import your word document to indesign, you can cross a box to show more options, then you'll get a window, where you can choose to keep/override the styles you made in word.

Also check that Verdana is active on your mac. (it could be possible that your pc and mac use a different kind of Verdana)

Another possibility is to check the table settings in indesign, it's possible you have to adjust some things: like distance from the text to the border (change it to 0pt?) or height of the row/width of the column.

An easy way is also to make normal text in word, bring into Indesign, and there convert to table. You can choose how to make them by using comma's or tabs. Try a few things... Maybe this is going to be the fastest way to solve your problems...

(Maybe you can make a screenshot of the bad result and put it online? It's difficult to really get what's going wrong...)

few questions first:

1) How are you saving your Word docs
2) How are you bringing them into IDCS2
3) What font are you using?
