in islam, especially arabian and north african countries, women are no more valuable than the rugs on their floor. Even their camels are more expensive than their women.
Thats why the women there are subjected to more cruel practices besides beating like vaginal circumcision which is totally brutal and sometimes even fatal. no anesthetics are used, the tools used are filthy and the cut off the young women's labia minor till their labia major, the clitoris is cut off and later the wound sewn to a very very small opening just for urination. just imagine when the men "take" their wives for the first time! That is worse than a thousand beatings!!!

Its called Ethical relativism. Which is the position that there are no moral absolutes, no moral right and wrongs. Instead, right and wrong are based on social norms. Some have heard of the term situational ethics which is a category of ethical relativism. At any rate, ethical relativism would mean that our morals have evolved, that they have changed over time, and that they are not absolute.
One advantage of ethical relativism is that it allows for a wide variety of cultures and practices. It also allows people to adapt ethically as the culture, knowledge, and technology change in society. This is good and a valid form of relativism.
The disadvantage of ethical relativism is that truth, right and wrong, and justice are all relative. Just because the group of people thinks that something is right does not make so. Slavery is a good example of this. Two hundred years ago in America, slavery was the norm and morally acceptable. Now it is not.

While we feel that it may not be acceptable and in most cases we feel it is reprehensible - it does not make the act inherantly evil.

In some muslim countries which practice its Islamic teaching in its laws and regulations, beating women and also men who have adultery or fornification is acceptable as part of conducting syariah life.God has instructed to punish muslims who make a
fornication in the holy Qur'an. by throwing stones to the woman and man until death .This death penalty will give effect to the others of not doing (afraid to do) the same ill deed.It is not a culture but a compulsory in line with Islamic teaching.

a simple answer would be its a patriarchal society. where the males rule and women are second class citizens just above slaves and hired hands.however their are rules about when its acctable and when its not.
Just like in America a Christian country that's patriarchal also. you are not supposed to hit a woman. that's called wife beating. but if the wife beats the husband that's what he deserves and has to take it like the man hes supposed to be.
IN both countries the women is supposed to be peaceful and fragile . therefore men can hurt a women more when they hit them.

Well think about it, if the women in the middle eastern countries that practice oppression if those women were to get educated, have the freedom work and make money, and walk to the grocery store alone, what would that do for the women, it would make them independent. And that is the very thing that the men/cowards don't want. In order to maintain power and control they have to keep the women uneducated and poor and living deep in fear. Fear of speaking their minds and having an opinion, for now those things would get them killed. Your kidding me right? Its 2006 and your still throwing stones? Hahahahaha

It is not acceptable, even it is a sin. That has nothing to do with the religion, it is the man ego and sickness.
