RCIA is a wonderful way for you to explore the Catholic faith without making the final commitment. Since it takes a full year of studying in the Bible and the Catechism, you will find that you will learn quite a lot about God, Jesus, the saints, the faith, and the traditions.

Don't let the nay-sayers get you down. Study is the ONLY way that you will know if the Catholic Church is the right place for you. I was a cradle Catholic, but left the Church as a young woman. I returned in my late 30s and my daughter joined the RCIA program. I have also seen my three young stepsons through RCIA and all of my children say that they learned so much. Two of my six children are NOT Catholic, and that's fine, too.

God doesn't really care what Church you attend. It's a matter of which Church do you find yourself most able to find HIM in? For me, it's the Catholic Church. Hopefully it will be for you, as well.

Some good websites to check out: http://www.ewtn.com and http://www.catholic-forum.com (check out catholic forum's saints index, it's awesome!)

You'll find alot of Dogma & Tradition that is either completely unscriptural, or loosely based.

More than a "personal relationship with Jesus," the main focus is completion of the sacraments.

You'll also find Transubstantiation, which if you're cool with assuming you're eating Jesus, is fine. Otherwise, it comes off as kinda cannabalistic...

The Catholic Church may be able to claim being the first, universal Body of believers, as brought forth in the Bible. But, it's what lies between the Apostles & present-day that gives most people pasue.

I agree with the other answer...you can't really make a decision until you do some research. But, as a woman who was raised Catholic and went to private school and all, and have also delved into other religions, I can tell you that you can expect a lot of "laws". Alas, all religions have laws....but to me....it just seems to be too much and hard to live up to.

Why, oh why would you want to join one the most hypocritical churches on our planet? It makes no sense. This is the church that doesn't even allow women to use birth control pills. As another reader suggested, RUN!!!
