Who thinks you are pathetic? You are bettering yourself-someone judging you for taking medication to better your life and make you able to do things you should normally be able to do, obviously don't know the whole story. If they make comments to you, stick up for yourself. If they continue to not be understanding even when you've explained yourself, stop associatinig with them. They're not the kind of people you need around to be supportive anyway. I don't know why they would think you are pathetic, I think taking it is proactive. Good job!

Probably no body thinks you're pathetic. I wouldn't confront anyone.
You don't have to tell people you are on Effexor.
Relax.
What is going on that brought you to this?
Has anyone said anything to you?
Is the Effexor working for you?
Or has it made you feel like you are about to explode?
I tend to blow things out of proportion, do you ever do that?

The doctor had put me on effexor at one time, and people were telling me I was talking out of my head, I discussed it with my doctor and DC ed it. Even my doctor said I sounded less drudged, everyone can't take effexor, although it is a good drug. Consult your doctor. Don't tell people everything, they tend to be judgmental some times.

Good for you! You have a problem, you got medical help, and take medication for it. So what? Who should care? Most of America is on some sort of prescription drug. I get tired of those who think a psych problem is not worthy of the same consideration as a physical problem. It is.
So ignore the uneducated folks who critisize, you are not pathetic where taking effexor for your problem is concerned.

Dont worry about their opinion...
If u feel ok about confronting them..do...but ppl who have this attitude are not worth wasting time on.
I also take Effexor...have been for 4 years. I believe if its going to help me live a quality life, then i will take them. Surround yourself with supportive friends and family, and ignore the others.
Hope this helps you.
Best of luck : )

Do they actually tell you they think you're pathetic? I wouldn't waste time confronting them unless they approach you first. And if they do approach you it's because they are afraid of any mental dysfunction. It's not like a deformed leg that can be readily seen, they don't understand it and that frightens them. Depression is a result of a physical event in the brain, and SSRIs help compensate for it, much like a hormone supplement.

Well as many of the others said it is really no one elses business if you take medication. You got help and that makes you the stronger person who wants to better their lives. Find people in your community who are supportive see if your area has any support groups for people with depression there you will find others who understand you and where you are coming- they will not judge you or tell you you are pathetic. Go to www.nami.org to find info on depression and see if there are any support groups in your area. Good luck and take care.

No. You should not tell everyone you know that you are on effexor. Does anyone but closest family and your medical providers really have to know?

you are not pathetic because you're on an anti-depressant .. you are to be commended for taking control of your mental health. just as there is nothing wrong with a person who has high blood pressure taking medication .. there is nothing wrong with anti-depressants.
i wouldn't confront anyone ... for truly, it is none of their business. if people are saying things about you .. ignore them. they are the ignorant ones .. not you. they are just being stupid about the unknown. you will achieve more by not caring what other people thing or say ... you only have to be true to yourself.
wtg for taking care of yourself.

Ask them if they think a diabetic is pathetic for taking insulin, or if a cancer patient is pathetic for taking chemotherapy, or if their grandparents or parents are pathetic for taking heart, cholesterol or blood pressure medication. You are taking a medication to treat a potentially life threatening disease. Period. If they can't digest that, then they're just fools.
