Hypoallergenic dog breeds are those touted as being hypoallergenic; that is, provoking fewer allergic reactions in allergy sufferers.

There are various coat types that are said to produce fewer allergens: single-coated dogs, who do not have a thick undercoat; dogs whose coat continues to grow, like human hair, rather than shedding regularly; and hairless dogs. These breeds usually shed less dander and hair and are, therefore, considered hypoallergenic. However, even hairless dogs can produce enough dander to affect a highly allergic person.

The question is, is it the dogs, (other pets) or the area surrounding us? I am very curious about this. Right now I have boxers and Samoyed's, (oh and a heck of a lot more species) when I groom them (the dogs) sometimes I sneeze uncontrollably, (the only thing that happens when I am around them is sneeze, others I know have different symptoms) but most times I just sneeze. Then again I live on a farm. I think weeding out the alternatives will help animal lovers worldwide to look for the best solutions. Sorry I do not want to offend other people with allergies from babies to adults, I just want to figure this out, I have a lot of pets and will continue to, just want opinions on my future pets and my health. Since this was brought up I will continue to search the net for solutions for all.

Up until last year, I thought I was allergic to all dogs. What I'm actually allergic to is the dog's dander, which some dogs (huskies, golden retrievers) produce a ton of, and some dogs only produce a little. If your allergies are really severe, like you've had them your whole life and your nose runs and your eyes feel like they're on fire, you're probably very sensitive to dander. Your symptoms are probably the worst when you're in a dog owner's house and not so bad when you're outside. I have a portugeuse water dog that produces very little dander, so I can live with him and I only have mild and very infrequent symptoms. If you're thinking about getting a dog, consider PWDs or poodles, they're good for people with allergies. If you're visiting someone with dogs, putting the dog in another room doesn't really help as their hair and dander are everywhere, you're better off meeting somewhere else, like your house. Hope that helps!

I have a pitt bull and a black lab and my son is allergic to only one of them. Not the fur but the saliva. As long as we give her a bath often he's fine.

Get a poodle, they're hypoallergenic. Dogs who shed more than others may also cause you to sneeze.

I don't know. I know what you are talking about because my father gave me two kittens for Christmas when I was four and he was an allergic freak! However, these cats didn't aggravate him and I never understood why.
