If your going to bleach it you better go to a salon. You could mess up your hair if you do it yourself and then your going to end up paying a lot more for corrective coloring.

I really hate to go with the crowd, but everyone's answer here seems on the mark.
I have dyed my hair for over 17 years.
2 years ago I decided I would like to be a blond, so I bought a bleach kit from wal mart for going from brunnette to blond. I did not know that one of the dyes I had used had a metallic sheen to it. I ended up with orange hair, which I told everyone was strawberry blond.
2 weeks later I dyed it the darkest blond color I could find. It worked and looked pretty good, but ...
My hair felt coarse and had a tendency to look a bit like broom bristles. I had to use conditioners 24/7 until it grew out some. I kept getting it cut shorter than normal and after 6 months it looked pretty good, but I did not want to be blond anymore, so I went back to a very light brunnette.
The results were not that good, but I had a very loving family and was going through a rough patch, so it sort of helped me change things up. But I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to just cry when you look in the mirror in the morning. And people started treating me dumber, like I didn't really know anything.
Pay the cash and go to a stylist that does somebody's hair you like and is similar to your own. You may not be thrilled with the results even then, but at least you will not be trying to kick yourself so much either.

you don't.... to bleach it, you really need to go somewhere to have it done. Hair bleaching is a very tricky thing. Lots of mixing of chemicals. (you have to get the right mixture or you will make your hair fall out or get chemical burns on your scalp!!!!) Plus you have to check it every so often to make sure you are not over processing it.
Please go somewhere to have this done. If you don't want to pay that much money for it, you can go to any cosmetology school and have it done at a discounted price. They are competent, and have licensed instructors there on site to ensure that nothing goes wrong.

Sorry but if you really want and need to go back to your natural color, play it safe and spend the $$$ and have it done professionally. Bleaching yourself will only result in horrific results. Do it the right way .... you will be glad you spent the money to have it done the right and professional way! : )

Careful what you ask for. Go to a someone who is Professional in there outlook of looking after the customer first before hair.
The hair is a womans crowning Glory and to those who have no idea of hair, can be a very dissappointing outcome.
Bleaching can be dangerous if not done correctly.

anytime you are trying to go lighter, it's almost a must to go to a hair salon/specialist. Lightening your hair color requires different toning and sealing a set color. My sister in law is a specialist in this field and goes nuts when she sees girls that try to lighten their hair themselves...it just looks mustardy or too platinum and cheap!!
even if its for a softer light brown, if you want it to look nice and natural...dish out the cash, your hair is important!
