Ok, I know this question has been raised before, but I can't seem to get a good answer with this.

If you ask me, Christians cannot believe in Evolution. If they did, they would have to see the story of Adam and Eve as false, which goes against everything in the Bible - at least the start of it.

There is clear evidence that humans have evolved from 'apes' or something close to that. So, at what point did Adam and Eve get 'placed' on the earth? were they placed at the point when humans evolved to the point we are today?

i'd like to have an insightful answer to this question, if possibe. an answer that doesn't quote from the bible would be best - afterall, how can we use the bible to prove the existence of adam and eve when the Bible itself is under serious question. I suppose that some people will say that the Bible does talk about evolution, but I don't see that very clearly written.

I'm a Christian, but I'm facing some concerns which make me doubt my entire faith..

Ok, thanks for the responses so far. This is what I've learned people generally believe:

1. Evolution is NOT true; Trust the Bible
2. Evolution is true, but so is the Bible
3. Evolution is true, the Bible is NOT
4. Adam and Eve is just a story, believe the rest of the Bible
5. It's all bullshit, don't worry about anything

ok, I'd most like to agree with #1. Unfortunately, I personally believe there is too much evidence of evolution out there. Maybe I'm wrong.
I'd like to believe #2, but I think evolution contradicts the Bible.
#3 makes sense, but my faith tells me not to believe it.
#4 is interesting, but if Adam and Eve were really just a story, then how can I possibly believe the rest of the Bible?
#5 is just foolish

Jesus supported the creation as stated in Genesis, as did the apostles. The bible is completely consistent all the way through.

If you believe in evolution, then you believe the bible is a lie. Actually, if evolution were true, then the bible would be a complete lie. A big, consistent, brilliantly intricate and masterfully planned lie.

So you decide. Do you make Adam and Eve fit evolution? It cannot be done.

The bible is a statement from an eye witness who not only saw the creation, he performed it. If he lied about it, then throw the bible out. Anyone who believes the bible and believes in evolution either thinks they are smarter than God, or thinks that God is a liar but believe in him anyway.

As for the 'clear evidence' for evolution, I suggest you quit taking the word of people who are on record as hating God and all religion and instead study the actual evidence yourself. You will find that thousands of scientists have become believers in creation - casting off the evolution model - specifically BECAUSE of the evidence.

Why are people so quick to believe that people who wrote the bible - people who preached love, justice, etc, would lie to them, but then are so quick to believe in evolutionary scientists who are on record as being homosexual, pedophiles, bigots, liars, etc. Study the histories of the early evolutionists - most of whom were not even experts in the fields and had a very primitive understanding of natural science.

Creation through evolution doesn't exist, something can't come from nothing. Species can't become another species, virus can't become bacteria, fish can't become reptiles. However there are changes that do take place in organisms, such as viruses which may become more resistant to antibiotics, this does not change the type of virus it is. There are other forms of change that can take place in animals as well, such as when the food supply becomes less the animal may become smaller, or if an animal injures its leg it may loose weight because it may not be able to support its weight on its remaining legs. There's more examples but it doesn't change the type of animal, could not all of this be by Intelligent design? By the why lucy is a fraud, it seems as some evolutionist claim to have made a discovery about some missing link, there fellow evolutionist will follow up their studies and discover just how false they really are and lucy is no exception! Funny how when some evolutionists so called reputations are on the line or their funding runs out they create a big discovery to get more grants and try to keep their own self authoritative brilliance from being challenged or exposed. Money and power is what they seek. Yes the seen comes from the unseen, the complexity of the atom and its smaller parts couldn't have happened by chance.

I'm a Christian, but I believe that the story of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden is just that - a story that was passed down from generation to generation until the Jewish people developed a written language.

The Bible consists of poetry, history, law, parables, wisdom, not all of which are to be taken literally.

So, you can be a Christian and still not believe that the Adam and Eve story is the way the world was actually created. (although I personally do not believe in the Theory of Evolution as proposed by Charles Darwin, either)

Well, you know how the bible has all these parables in it? Think of Adam and Eve as a parable as well.

Atom and Evolution.
Adam and Eve.
Atom and Evoluton

science is just man's way of explaining things. take for instance the big bang theory.... scientists have spent years giving an explanation on how the world began and they still CAN NOT get it right! They even say there is a new planet out there in our solar system, yet for the past at least 3 centuries with all of man's formulas, telescopes, and spaceships, and knowledge they've just found that out! All of this is just an effort to make MONEY off of people's fascinations with what they don't understand. Take for instance medicine. There is a natural cure for pretty much any disease out there. Yet the government wants you to buy these drugs to make money, especially the elderly. To make a long story short don't just take every thing for face value. Some of these scientists only way of making money is disproving The Bible. Yet If there was anything false in it that would be front-page news! People just don't want to follow God.

Matthew 24:37-39
37But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, 39And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be

I hope this helps!

Think about it like this: If Adam and Eve were really the first people on Earth, who could have written about them? Adam and Eve is a myth. Just accept it's a myth. It doesn't mean you can't still be a Christian because the bible does teach some good moral values. Worrying about the first humans on Earth is far less important than loving your neighbor. Evolution is real, but the teachings of Jesus can also be learned as well. Blessed be.

Listen kid, take an evolution class, and you'll doubt your faith even more. Don't let anyone use the excuse: well because we don't something MUST MAKE the alternative theory correct (i.e: origin of the universe by natural processes vs. by God). Just because we don't know something doesn't mean God did it (which people always used to do: attribute unknowns to God). As science has grown, God is used to explain fewer and fewer things.

To be completely fair, most sane religious people regard the Adam and Eve story as a "parable" and not a true event. If they do argue it as a true event, then I ask you this: if Adam and Eve were as advanced (advanced meaning capable of the same higher thought that we are today) as we are today, which is what they are saying....then why did THEY write nothing down or leave something behind for us to find? Did they not anticipate future generations asking questions? It doesn't add up.

I'm a Biological Anthropologist...and you're right...there is complete and total evidence that humans did evolve from a "common" ancestor with chimpanzees. You've got to realize: evolution doesn't question the origin of life, it NEVER has claimed to. That's why I don't understand why there is even a debate at all. Evolution happens...it happens in a BIG way (macroevolution--into new species) and MICROEVOLUTION...the things we see more commonly (bacterial resistance to drugs).

Consider this: you have one species of..let's say water snakes, ok? One day....a barrier is placed between half of the snakes of the same species (and add another wrench to the equation: the water is warmer on one side). There are now two seperate groups of these water snakes due to the physical barrier. It could be a human barrier, mudslide, whatever. Over time, the water snakes on the one side will develop different adaptations as their environment will now be different (warmer water). The two groups of snakes will evolve seperately, and can potentially become 2 different species...not able to interbreed. It's really much more complicated than that, but I didn't want to drag this out more than necessary. That's just an example of evolution in action. So you see, evolution isn't this BIG EVIL thing that some Christians think it is. It's just science...and it's documented science. We see it all the time (well, not everyday....but you get the point...it's a long process). And I'll just say about my bacterial resistance example: have you ever heard of strings of bacteria becoming resistant to a drug? These microbes have evolved to the point of being nearly invincible to the drugs they were typically treated with. The strongest survived, lived on, and reproduced. That's one of the most basic tenets of evolution (natural selection). Other phenomena can be taken into account too: genetic drift, mutation, sexual selection, etc....but those are all secondary to natural selection. (Little known fact: CHARLES DARWIN was studying to be a MINISTER before he developed the theory of natural selection...then became agnostic.)

I really hope this helps. I'm glad you are examining your world and your God...even if you decide that evolution is a load of crap, at least you are one of the select few that give it a chance at all. People have preconceived notions that evolution interferes with faith...it doesn't. The Catholic Church itself believes that God works THROUGH evolution to give rise to change. Read up, be educated. Good luck to you.

After I read your additions to your comments, I'll say this:
There's nothing wrong with examining your faith. Would God want you to blindly accept anything written in the Bible? The Bible isn't perfect...it was written by people, not God (don't give me anything about the prophets being inspired...I know...I went through FOURTEEN YEARS of Catholic School). God and evolution? They're not necessarily seperate...though my own personal beliefs are not that. I'm trying to give you an honest account of evolution. The only way for you to know is to have all the facts of evolution, and compare them with the compatibility with your religion.

MOST IMPORTANT*****Just because you believe in God, doesn't mean you can't accept the theory of Evolution. By the same token of: if you reject Adam and Eve, you reject the rest of the Bible....if you reject Evolution, you reject the rest of science. Think about it. It's a scientific process under the same scrutiny as physics, chemistry, etc. Just get the facts. Again, good luck!

Just remember that God created Adam and Eve. Evolution was a theory based on a man that couldn't tell the difference between a pig and a ape. Also remember that evolution is just a theory.

Almost all Anglicans believe in Evolution. And there are several theologians who are also scientists. John Polkinhorne is a priest who is a theoretical physicist at Cambridge. Alister McGrath writes on theology and has a PhD in Microbiology. He teaches at Oxford. I suggest books by either. No need to sweat because of evolution.

I can Give you Evidence that the Garden Of Eden did Exist. It is in present day Iraq located in thier swamp lands. Also surprisingly one of the First and most successfull civilizations was Started there know as Babylon (A.K.A. Ancient Babylon).

Now can you give me any Evidence that things are still evolving today into Humans? Can You find an Ape or Monkey which can type a novel all on it's own? Did you Know that animals that swim in water and Live on Land are amphibians and NOT Missing Links? Also If Evolution were as successfull here as any other Ball of Dirt then why Have we not been contacted by the people who "seeded" our Planet in the First place? they obviosly could reach our Planet so why not come back a couple million years after we Evolved and turn us into Slaves? HUH HUH HUH HUH HUH? Why cant you answer my rediculous questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????
