Do you think its a good reason for a mother to start crying and the dad to try and storm off on his fathers birthday because his son could not play with a fridging gamecube????He was not allowed to play with the game cube for a week because he broke an aztec statue that was of sentimental value. He was repeatally told to stop messing around with it!

A very young child may not understand the consequences....but then I hope he's not already hooked up to gamecube at such a young age.
If he's 4 or older, then I would say that the punishment is appropriate. It sounds like Mom and Dad are trying so hard not to hurt their son's feelings...that they refuse to set limits. Kids without limits feel out of control and usually behave like it. Mom and dad need to be Parents to this boy. They can be friends later when he is grown.

I'd hide the rest of your statues. And perhaps they need to consult their pediatrician...if behavior is uncontrollable.

Another possibility: They are not upset about the gamecube...nor the statue....but underlying issues amongst the adults. Are they upset about the punishment....or something else between you and them?

Maybe the item of sentimental value should have been kept out of his reach when it was obvious he was attracted to it. Part of good parenting is diverting and removing the object of controversy.

I don't think the punishment should be lifted. And really, it all depends on the age of the child.

Uh, no! If he was told to stop several times and he broke the statue of value, then he should be punished and it shouldn't be lifted. he won't learn if you do not follow through on his punishments.

If adults have valuable things in their house then they are f*cking stupid to be making babies to begin with.
