With the high price of counceling, how do people afford it? Im a single mom. They (billing office at the clinic where they do counceling) tell me I dont qualify for any deductions, at $115 a pop and he wants to see me every 2 weeks. I cant do that. Yes I have insurance that does not cover out patient counceling. How do you afford it?

Look around for a new place - somewhere with a sliding scale, preferably. I went to the Community Services in my area and only had to pay $26-$28 a session (weekly).

I'll include a link for "Counselor Find" - special area of NBCC.org (National Board of Certified Counselors). They all list info for each including their number and areas of practice - that way you can find someone that's more affordable (or has a sliding scale) and will also suit your needs.

Overcoming my depression and anxiety was the best thing I've ever done for myself and I wish you the best of luck!

I went to a PhD in NYC and paid half that amount. One thing you can do is call your local university and ask for someone in training for a PhD in clinical psychology. Tell them you want the top student in the class who also possesses empathy. The students are generally well-supervised and the best students often get the best supervisors. You could also ask how many years it takes to complete training and ask for a student in his or her final year. You could also ask about the master's degree that the PhD candidate holds. You could get someone with a masters in social work who has had a significant amount of training - perhaps more than the person you are currently seeing.

The fee schedule is often half the amount. Plus, they may have a different sliding scale. The other option is to call around to other clinics to see who has a sliding scale that will fit your needs. Many clients take on a second part-time job, but that probably wouldn't fit your situation. Sometimes you can do credit card billing too.

There are other options as well that can help. One is to get your diagnosis and read every website and every book relating to your condition. There are a lot of workbooks for anxiety and depression for example. This may allow you to make twice as much progress. At night when you are lying in bed drifting off into unconsciousness, let your mind wander to subjects related to your therapy. You can usually get some insights at this time of day. That might make your sessions more worthwhile. Good luck. Therapy is very beneficial. You'll be glad you gave yourself this gift.

Call any local college if any in your area. Usually Colleges can offer counceling cheap, like $15 a visit. The students need to train and are almost ready for the big-paying-career. Hopefully, you will find trained individuals to help you.
I hope this helps and there are colleges within your area.

Several churches have counselors that provide some help but lacking that, there isn't much to do. But I do suggest that you review your insurance carefully, sometimes there are loopholes in the policy that allows some counseling...In some states you may qualify for a state medical card.

Have you tried getting public aid medical card. You may not qualify for foodstamps, but it is very possible that you can still get the medical card! Millions of people are having to do this now, all other ins. is to high!

depending on your ailment, maybe you could find groups...
sometimes, a friend is a great way of finding help. U know, everyone these days are running to counseling for help when it might not be so ness. - dont get me wrong, maybe professional help is needed but shouldn't be the first route. Maybe a nice vacation might do the trick... or some good sex? haha, I'm just kidding... or you could find yourself a psychiatrist and then have sex with him for help ;-)
