My poor, poor 13 month old contracted friggen lice from the friggen babysitter (I was LIVID when I found out!). I need help on how to get rid of this, I have been shampooing her and myself for like 3 weeks now. I have washed and cleaned EVERYTHING atleast 3 times. Does anyone have any suggestions??? If you are wondering, she does NOT go to that babysitter any more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been using the lice shampoo on the both of us. I don't have it, I keep my hair up most of the time, especially at home now. I am pretty close to shaving her head, it would be such a shame though, she has such lovely red curly hair.

A great home remedy is to put Mayo or Miracle whip in the hair, use generously, and then put on a plastic cap or bag of some kind for as long as you can stand it, and repeat as neccessary. It is safe and cheap and works.
I don't think RID or like products are reccomended for a 13 mo. old. Be very cautious!! These products are poison.!!!

At 13 months old I don't know how long her hair is, but I would get rid of as much as possible without making her look too bad...a cute short little girl cut. You have to comb through her hair every night and wash her bedding in hot water I would say daily until you get rid of them on her. Both my boys got it over the summer and I just shaved their heads. When the first one got it I was picking through his hair shampooing him and doing everything I could because his hair was long and he is 15, but when I seen them in my other child I said forget it and just got rid of their hair. A nurse told me a long time ago that lice actually like clean hair better than dirty hair. Maybe don't shampoo her every day? It is frustrating. I agree with the other person also that said before you use the shampoo made for lice, check with your little girl's doctor. Good luck.

Sounds like you are using the over the counter lice shampoos. These will work BUT you have to pick ALL of the nits out of her hair. This is very important.
Remember these shampoos are very toxic, so be careful about using them on her. Another option is Olive oil. You can soak her hair in it, cover with a plastic shower cap, and then leave on for about 3 hours before washing. This will kill the live bugs without harming your daughter. Again you will have to pick ALL of the nits out - This is the most important step in getting rid of lice.
Also making sure to clean EVERYTHING, all stuffed animals, bedding, clothes, coats, car seat, furniture, blankets and so on.
The stuffed animals can be placed in the dryer for an hour on high, or bagged up and placed outside for 1 week. When you vacuum, make sure to throw the bag away, don't leave in the house or reuse. Another important thing is to check her daily for new nits...they can continue to hatch for about 7-10 days. If you stay on top of it, after 10 days she should be nit and bug free.

Sorry, never had lice so I don't know for sure, but my best friend's kids have gotten lice from school and she did exactly what you're doing. So at the very least you should keep that up. Do you still have the lice? Are you using a lice shampoo? If so, you should probably dilute it for use on your baby --- her little head is probably too sensitive for the full-strength product.
Also, do you yourself have very long hair? My friend's daughters did and she ended up cutting off several inches of their hair to help with the lice problem. If your hair is particularlly long you might consider this. (And hey you might like the shorter hair!)
Good luck.

My SIL is a beautician and when my niece got lice from a baseball helmet she used vasoline. The only downfall is that it takes a few days to get the oil out of the hair but the lice will be gone. Put the vasoline in the hair and comb it through with a fine-tooth comb. The lice will "suffocate" in the vasoline and die. There is also a product you can buy at the drug store for lice (just not sure of the name of it-sorry).

Besides the RID (remember to use a lice comb...can't just wash with the shampoo), you have to make sure you put all of her stuffed toys, pillows, etc. into garbage bags for 24 hours (this will kill the lice that you can't wash off). This includes your sofa/chair cushions and anything else that she may crawl/lay on. Everything else has to be washed in hot water.

Cover both your heads in olive oil (you for 45 mins and the baby for 25) and then comb out the lice eggs. The oil suffocates the adults and the comb will get rid of their young. Wash off when done. Natural and 100% safe for you and your child.

You have to comb out every single egg with the comb and use RID. ask your doctor if you can use this on her , shes so young. you also have to wash everything in your house that she is on , sheets, pillows, bedding, use hot water, vacuum bed carpets every day. put all stuffed toys in a garbage bag and suffocate the little pests. After about a week you can free the little stuffed animals. was them too. And you have to use that RID stuff for like two weeks? says on the bottle.

Make sure that you have washed all bedding in HOT water. Also, any pillows or things should be put in a plastic bag for a week. when vaccuuming, remove the bag. also, have someone go through your hair to remove eggs. If you have pets, you may want to check with vet to see if there is anything you can use for them.
Also, if you dont see salvation in sight, it may not be a bad idea to go the doctor.
Good luck, i know it can be a pain in the ****!
