no, they cheat with them and even if they dont they will be disruptive. I guess if the parents make them walk to school they could bring them but shouldnt be allowed in class and be checked in at the door. Kids, and adults, CAN surrvive without them, they have for years, give them 50c and tell them to use a payphone, if its an emergency the school has proceedures, and phones.

Yes. But they should not be able to use them during certain times and places. Elementary is too young. Beginning toward the end of middle school seem good.
We don't need phones 24/7 like some would like to make us believe. We were doing fine all these years, and would do fine many more to come if all the phones were sucked away into a black hole. But where I live, when there was a school shooting, bigtime, those cell phones gave some parents piece of mind. Those whose children didn't have cells were at the mercy of school office phones, which were flooded.

Our school policy is that if it rings.. it gets sent to the office for the student to pick up after school.. unless this is not the FIRST time.. and then the parent is required to come in and claim the phone for the student...
Students do not know how to leave the phones turned off during school...
some students use their phones to cheat...
some students send continual text messages when they are supposed to be working or studying...
I don't think children's "common sense" will change any time soon so ... NO they should NOT be allowed to have cell phones at school.

YES, i think that kids should be allowed to bring cell phones to school only if they need to call their parents about after school practices, or of haveing to go somewere....other wise there is no reason.. i think that they should be able to bring them at the age of 12 and up

Yes, but they need to shut them off while in class. There might be a real need for the phone on the way home from school or even at school if you have a sick child or parent or anything along that line.

yes they should
in light of recent events in Montreal regarding some lunatic shooting college students in their school...without the students placing 911 calls from within the school on their cell phones the police & swat team may have been further delayed in their arrival causing even more fatalities & injuries

Absolutely! Our schools are plagued by bomb threats, school shootings, natural disasters, etc. The panic of the students coupled with panicked parents trying to find their child is helped tremendously by allowing the use of cell phones in those circumstances.
There should be strict rules governing them, however.

!) year olds with cell phones are ridiculous, but high and junior high schools definetely should be able to. They have jobs and sometimes need to be contacted.

Sure.
Should they be allowed to have them on in class? NO.
And I mean no, no texting, no vibrating, no ringing, nothing. It would be an inert item in my classroom or it would be removed, with or without the student.
