I would take all suggestions here with a grain of salt, as I'm sure you know! I only say this because I wouldn't trust these that a lot of these people know what they are talking about. I do understand why you are asking though, in case anyone else had this problem and could offer advice. Some people are just either rude about it or don't know what they are talking about.
Since you've already been to the doctor about it (Why are people telling you to go to the doctor when you've obviously stated you went already?!) then I don't think you have to much to worry about. The doctor would notice if it was anything major or anything. If you still feel really uncomfortable, call your doctors office to make sure. If you are worried about calling after your visit because you don't want to seem annoying, don't be! It's there job to give out medical advice and to reasure mothers. You have a right to worry, you're his mom!
From my understanding the most common thing that blood in urine (hematuria) is caused by a UTI. Did your doctor mention that was a possibility? I do know it only takes a very small amount of blood to make the urine discolored. That's the only thing I could think of, and like I am not even sure because I have no medical training what so ever. One of the children I babysit for had this and that is why I know a little about it.
Just keep an eye out for any other symptoms, if ANYTHING seems not normal for your sons behavior then notify your doctor and tell him on your next appointment that you have with him. I think you are handling the situation just fine by going to the doctor. Good luck and I'm sure everything will be fine!
Edited: I'm sure you know this already but as someone earlier mentioned giving cranberry juice. That is NOT ok, you shouldn't give any juice to babies younger than 6 months old, as recomended by the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Nutrition. Like I said I'm sure you probably knew this already, but that's what I meant about taking the advice here with a grain of salt =)

ok, the first thing i would do is start your son drinking cranberry juice (helps neutralize any bacteria that might be present) and if your doctor sent the urine to the lab wait the few days for the results....it may be an infection. if he didnt order more tests to be done on the urine then go to another doctor. The lab i work at here in ontario, if the chemstrip says any amount of blood present in the urine gets a culture started right away.

It is ok to give cranberry juice to babies you just need to mix it half and half with distilled water, I have had extensive medical training (canadian medical training in which standards are very high) and i am a mother. I do agree tho the answers here should be taken lightly.
good luck and i hope this helped

Of course you're worried - he's your "baby" and you have a right to be. If the doctor isn't terribly concerned and you trust him, just get the ultra-sound done for safety sake and see what the results are. I am sure your pediatrician has seen things like this before and if you trust him, get the test and follow-up with the doctor. God forbid you see more blood, let the doctor know immediately or go to an Emergency Room. Don't panic - everything will be resolved to a happy ending.

It could have been trauma he may have pulled on his thing. Its probably not anything and an ultrasound will put your mind at ease. Is he drinking enough formula. You might want to add an extra feeding to his schedule so he is well hydrated. Cuddle him and stop worrying. Don't give water at his age he only needs breast milk or formula. Sorry folks do seem mean tonight and some of the answers you got were rude. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE. Get some rest mommy remember to sleep when he sleeps. Hello med lab tech he is 4 months old do you really think cranberry juice is appropriate.

Are there any other symptoms that are accompanying this?

Even though your ped has ordered an ultrasound, I would keep a journal of anything and everything you notice daily that you can submit to your ped the next time you see him/her. The smallest detail could mean a better diagnosis, plus, it will help ease your mind that you are able to write these things down and not stress about forgetting something that may very well be important.

Hugs to you and your son, and I hope everything works out well!

It's not uncommon for a children to get UTI's, but know this, if your son does have one and it becomes recurrent, the medical officials will notify the child protective services because of possible abuse. He does need to see a doc however.
