I have a 4 yr. old daughter and anytime she barely bumps her nose it begins to bleed. Sometimes she dosent even have to bump it for it to start. I have 3 other children and have never had this problem before it started about 2 months ago. Should I really be concerned? What could be causing this? I saw that frequent nose bleeds could be a sign of leukemia is this true?

There are several causes for the nosebleed including trauma (such as hitting the nose), fracture (broken nose), pressure (such as may be caused by altitude), anticoagulant (anti-clotting) medication, excessively dry air, excessive nose-picking, allergic rhinitis and high blood pressure among the elderly. Some rare diseases that may cause nosebleeds are Wegener's granulomatosis and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT, Rendu-Osler-Weber disease); sarcoidosis, when it involves the nose, has been reported to cause nosebleeds. von Willebrand disease may cause nosebleeds. In some rare cases, the cause of a nosebleed can be cancer of the head and neck or nasal polyps.

When I was a kid , I had horrible nose bleeds. They would last for hours , Literally I would fall asleep with my face in the sink with the blood running out. My mom would take me to the doctors, and there was never anything that they could do. It happen end when I got excited, When I got scared, when I bumped my nose, when I picked my nose. when I blew my nose.
Once I started menstruating they stopped. I hope they have a cure for chronic nose bleeds now. I would hate to think of anyone going through what I went through.

Your daughter may have a blood vessel close to the surface and it could bleed easily. Doctors can cauterize the vessel if this is the case. Allergies and/or change in weather or climate can sometimes cause nosebleeds as well.
A cool mist humidifier in her room at night is a good start...and saline nose drops can help keep it moist too.
But I would definitely see a doctor about this soon. She's very young.

My son has this problem His is caused by a sinus condition. The lining of his nose gets really dry and when that happens it cracks and bleeds and the result is a nose bleed. A sneeze or a cough can start it or he can rub his nose and it starts and sometimes it just happens. After three doctors one that was a specialist they finally figured out about the sinus condition.

I have had long hair my entire life and have never had a nose bleed, ever. The air, where you live, allergies...things like that can cause a nose bleed, not long hair.

I had the same problem when I was younger and the doc said it was because of my frequent sore throats. It only got worse after I had the chicken pox too...he said I have "polyps" in my nasal cavities.
a humidifier will help with the dry air in your house...that causes them also

As strange as it may sound, it can be her tonsills. I had a younger cousin who did the same, it also bled when she got too warm or excercised. Don't start off thinking the worse, it may just be a sinus issue or something very minor. Good luck.

Normally, I would say either high blood pressure or the air is too dry - causing her nasal passages to be too dry. If a humidifier doesn't work, talk to her pediatrician.

Why on earth would you mess around with something like this? It is not normal. Take her to the Doctor.
