The Baha'i Fast is 19 days long and generally last from March 2 to March 20. This is the only time of the year that Fasting is required. Fasting involves abstaining from food and drink (smoking is discouraged in the Faith but if a believer does smoke then the believer must abstain from smoking as well) from sunrise to sunset. Those exempt from fasting, as detailed in the website below, are women who are nursing or pregnant, the aged (over 70), the sick, the traveler, those engaged in heavy labor, as well as children under the age of fifteen. Finally, there are those who would have a hard time Fasting because of a various number of health reasons. Bahá'u'lláh reveals the following: `Verily, I say that God has appointed a Great station for fasting and prayer. But during good health its benefit is evident, and when one is ill, it is not permissible to fulfill them.' Therefore, if one is sick or would be sick if he/she fasted, then they are not required to do so.

Good question and hope that this answers most of your question.

Interesting question

The Baha'i is a religion which developed from the Babi movement in the 19th century. The Babis were a Persian Shi'ite group which followed the teachings of the Bab, but after he was executed Baha'ullah (1817-1892) took control of the group and most followed him. Thus, although it started out as a narrow Shi'ite sect, it eventually became a univeralist world religion, independent of Islam.

Baha'i stresses the validity of all religions and the unity of all of humanity - regardless of race, sex, religion or other traditional differences.
