It would never happen. Liberal wishful thinking.
Comparing our military to anyone else's military (excepting maybe the Brits and/or the Aussie's) is like comparing apples to oranges. Besides, Iraq isn't HALF as unpopular as the war in Vietnam was on the home front. And still, over 1.5 million American GI's went to Vietnam and fought (Nearly 70,000 of them made the ultimate sacrifice) valiantly. Why? Because they were ORDERED to do so and because they took an oath to "serve and protect the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign AND DOMESTIC, and to obey the orders of the President of the United States and all officers and non-commissioned and petty officers appointed over them, SO HELP THEM GOD." I'm sure the majority of them objected to the war in Vietnam, but they went anyway and did their duty. To suggest that our boys and girls in uniform today are in any way less committed in spirit to the same oath every non-com and commissioned officer has taken for over 200 years is an insult to their character and demeans their service to their country.

Well, let's ask an IDF soldier after he passes through neighborhoods shelled by indiscriminate hezbollah rockets or how about a bus ripped apart and pieces of the unfortunate men, women and children strewn all over the place...
Somehow I don't think they would lay down the guns...no I think they would ask for a couple more banana clips so they can adequately get the payback they deserve.

I wonder why people here say that we would be overrun by Arabs or Chinese if all soldiers put down their weapons. Whi is going to do the overrunning. In this scenario all Arab and Chinese soldiers have put down their weapons too.
Peace would happen and all the waste, destruction and expense that goes into war could turn into prosperity for all and an end to starvation. Then no one would have anything to fight about.

If every soldier were to lay down their arms, first, they would be overrun by the terrorists, and either killed or captured.
Next, those who survived, and were identified, would receive courts-martial, and possibly sentenced to death for cowardice in the face of the enemy. (Article 99, UCMJ)
This kind of activity (collective laying down of arms) only happens in the dreams of those who default to the "give peace a chance" scenario. Fortunately, if it were not for brave soldiers who defend your right to indulge your fantasies, you would, as someone else said, be speaking Farsi or Arabic, and bowing eastward toward Mecca three times a day. And all of this in the name of "peace and tolerance."

I think we would have a lot more dead soldiers. Do you think because we give up that the Iraqis will? No, they would just consider it a free ride to terrorize.

Are you kidding? Violence is part of being alive. It's natural. The only problem with humans is killing other animals isn't as fun as it used to be. Cops try to keep the domestic wolves from the flock and soldiers keep the overseas wolves from our land.

You are an idiot. Bush had nothing to do with 9/11, and why would you want our military to be filled with people unwilling to fight?
You people amaze me!(I mean you people in a very bad way)

What kind of stupid question is this. You yourself are stirring up hatred by your comments on this question. There is problems on both sides of this conflict. So, don't slant it by only putting focus on the side your against!

Ever hear of Leavenworth?
Who knows it may work, I wouldn't reccomend it. But not every soldier is going to lay down their weapon. Too many want to fight.
